Transfer Student Searching for College

I am finishing up my associates in engineering science at community college in New York and I am looking for somewhere to transfer to get bachelor’s in mechanical engineering. Work in the area is important to me because I don’t have any financial support. Money isn’t a huge deciding factor - I have tons of money saved to move permanently. If I leave I will not be going back to New York.

I have been working as a BIM coordinator using revit and autocad in Manhattan. This is important because where I transfer I would like to be work like this there (pretty much where ever construction is booming). Luckily most cities in California are loaded with this kind of work. Boston has work, but it is extremely cold there. Every other city has work, but not like California/Boston/NYC.

Here’s a punch list:

  1. I am falling in love with the idea of moving to California because I had always wanted to
  2. Looking for mechanical engineering school (of course the best education available)
  3. Tuition cost doesn’t matter to me. I’ll take a loan and live on campus.
  4. My transfer GPA is 3.78
  5. Looking for major cities (san diego/los angeles/san francisco) Work is abundant in cities.
  6. Bringing my car is important. I don’t want a campus that I can’t bring my car or can’t park it. It’s a new lease. I can’t leave it in NY because im permanently moving out of NY.
  7. I like to party. Social life at college is kind of important to me.
  8. Good weather. Im tired of snow and don’t like the cold.

It doesn’t have to be California. However, I won’t go somewhere that is rural and quiet. There isn’t money in those areas.

The most you can borrow is $7500 as a junior. Look in NY so you can get good rates. Buffalo?

I am an independent so the most I can borrow is $12,500 as a junior. I haven’t borrowed any money throughout my associate’s degree and my credit is excellent so I would consider taking a student loan through a traditional bank. The investment is worth it to me because my current work makes me highly employable should I get a degree in structural engineering or similar in the construction/high rise industry.

Part of the reason that I haven’t chosen anything in the Northeast is that I dislike the climate. I would have to be accepted into an Ivy league school for me to brave these Winters.
