I currently have a 3.83 GPA in the University of Georgia's Honors Program. I am currently a Finance major but only because there is not a Pre-Law major here that I can be a part of. I would like to be very competitive for a Top 5 Law School, and was wondering what schools would I get into and best fit my needs? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

go to the law forum and tell them you want to major in pre law.

Law schools look down at pre law majors.. I went to law school numbers and someone with 3.7 got rejected.. I'm pretty sure it was cuz she was a pre law major.

Absolutely. That must be it.

I'm not looking to major in pre-law, I've known that's a weakness on a law school application from the start. I'm a Finance major because I want to go into Corporate Law and thought Finance would be a good springboard and foundation for the law I wish to pursue.

So I'm trying to find out what schools would accept me and offer me the best undergrad education prior to law school

they want anything but pre-law... they don't want some clown from criminal justice that thinks they know what they're talking about

my sister was pre-law, had like a 3.7+ with decent LSATS and barely got in at most of the schools she applied to

ugh that sucks ah11.. I was abt to major in prelaw, then something possessed me to major in criminal justice. then I went into fashion merchandising (again something possessed me here), and now I'm at accounting and history and I am sticking to this.

Why would schools even come up with a major like pre law... it is a such a trap. and you know whats funny is that uni's w/ law schools have pre law majors :/

anyways, OP u should just apply to whatever schools are good for your intended major. go to usnews.com and check out rankings or something.

Just find a school that you think you would fit in well at. I doubt there are any meaningful statistics you could find about what school you should attend to optimize your chances at a top 5 law school (except stating the obvious... which is, go to a school with rigorous curricula and a competitive student body). Other than that, I don't think your school is going to make a huge difference in your application success... rather it's most likely going to come down to your GPA, LSATs, activities, etc.

I believe I read somewhere that the most successful law school applicants are economics, history, and philosophy majors, which isn't surprising.

This link is pretty old, but back in the mid-90s, Philosophy and Economics were # 2 and 3 when it came to highest average LSAT scores by major. Bottom two were Criminology and Pre-Law.

Will being an honors program be that much of a plus... or is it just looked over?

I think schools have prelaw as a springboard for other legal careers (like a paralegal or a legal secretary), rather than as a precursor to law school.

aherro - from my research (I'm also interested in t14 law schools) I don't think honors programs make that much of a difference.
