Transfer Student taking "lower division" courses

I start at Berkeley this Fall and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about Transfers at the Junior level taking lower division courses (not a pre-req for major)

I never had the opportunity to take an economics class at CC. CC divides lower division econ into 2 classes (macro and micro) It seems CAL has one lower division class that covers both.
I am an Anthropology major.

My questions is, as a junior level transfer, is it frowned upon to take a lower division class? Should I be taking nothing but upper division classes? I did the math, and it seems even with taking that lower division class I should be able to finish all my requirements for graduation.

I plan on running this by my academic and major advisors this fall before taking it, but just curious if anyone knows anything about this.

i just completed my first yera at ucla and it is definitely not frowned upon to take lower div. The majority of you classes will be upper div, but you shouuld have some extra units where u can take what u want. @ UCLA I needed 90 units once I came in, and 60 of those units need to be upper div to grad. So I will be done with my major fairly eearly and will take a couple lower div classes just because they are interesting to me/ easy A’s

I echo the previous comment. I also transferred to UCLA last year and taking lower divs is in no way frowned upon.

Take whatever you want as long as you’re working towards your degree. However, I know that my particular college requires you to take 12 units towards your major each semester (to keep us on track to graduating on time since it’s a BS and requires more classes) but in lighter unit majors (like most L&S since they’re all BA degrees) you will have plenty of space in your schedule to explore whatever types of classes you want.

An upper division student (transfer or “native”) can take lower division courses.

Of course, your major may require a specific number of upper division courses or units.

Also, [Berkeley’s College of Letters and Science](http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/requirement/summary.html) requires you to complete at least 36 upper division units, including at least 6 outside of your major department. The 36 upper division units is only 60% of the 60 units you would typically take over four semesters.

I totally plan on taking lower divs!

I’ll take 1 or 2 lower divs my first semester. That way, I’ll be able to take on 4 classes instead of 3 classes + a DeCal, without feeling like I’m taking a too heavy load.

Lots of people (myself included) still need to fulfill some lower div pre-reqs or courses required as pre-reqs for outside major upper div classes they plan on taking in the future.

Besides, as ucbalumnus already said, you must only complete 36 upper div units.

I have to take a lower div class when I transfer b/c it was not offered at any of the CCs w/in a 50 miles radius of me :/
