Transfer Student to columbia

Hi,
I m an incoming transfer student to columbia. i plan to start my sophomore year at SEAS. I was wondering if anyone could give me any pointers or advice about columbia university in general.

Be very proactive joining clubs and other ECs. It will not be very easy for you to make friends initially as a transfer.

Is that like the general experience for transfers? Does Columbia have a male soccer team

Yes; most transfers find it rather difficult to make inroads. Oh, and rule #1: don't make friends with other transfers out of desperation.

And yes, there is a male soccer team.

is there a rule #2?

Maybe not to spend too much time out and about in the city at first. You're a lot more likely to make Columbia friends by spending time on campus where they concentrate.

hows the whole diversity and inter-clique relationship thing at columbia by this i mean are people generally cliquish. plus ur like the most active person on the columbia college confidential forum, are u a moderator or something

No, I'm not a moderator. And maybe you're confusing me and Columbia2002, since he's also very active. I'm on here a lot because I'm going through the application process again with law school, and figured I would assist prospective Columbia undergrads on the side.

To answer your question: Columbia can be quite cliquish, but most people definitely have friends outside of their given social circle. There are also a number of successfully independent people who manage to relate well to a large number of groups/other individuals, although it may be much harder to break into this category as a transfer.

Does anyone know why i havent received my housing assignments. is it just me or all transfers havent? Or on the other hand is the housing office plain sluggish and bureaucratic?

I'm transferring and I haven't gotten my housing yet either.

i know i havent gotten mine either! I'm want to know!

last time i called which was in late july i was told that they were going to START assigning housing to transfers on the first of august. its like a week later, by the way how many transfers are there this year

Haven't gotten mine either.

Yeah, me neither. By the way, anyone gotten their registration appointments yet?

nope i havent

Sophomore SEAS transfer here. Housing is the only thing Columbia has been late with. Compared to my old school, I'm still really impressed with how efficient and timely they've been with everything else, haha.

Another transfer and CCer says he emailed somebody in housing yesterday and we are allegedly going to receive our housing assignments via email today.

thats a good thing, by the way I m a sophomore transfer to SEAS myself

Facebook me, my name's (obviously) Layla.

don't know about you guys...but I haven't gotten anything.. :(
