Transfer student to IU for Spring 2010 -got my housing

I'm going to be moving from Los Angeles to IU-Bloomington for the Spring 2010 as an Informatics major...Anyone in the same boat? transfer students? informatics major?

Anyway, I just got my housing and wanted to know if anyone else will be there. I got into Ashton Stempel. I did my research and apparently its known as the anti-social place...I hope thats not true for me because i am too outgoing to be living in a place like that. However I did not find much info on Stempel.

I started at IU this past fall, and I’m considering an informatics major. I took the introduction course this past semester, and I’m signed up for social informatics for the spring.

You are correct about Ashton’s reputation: it’s known for being a less social dorm. I only know one person who lives in Ashton, so I can’t really confirm or deny it. However, since you’ll be new there are are starting mid-year, it’s likely that people will be interested to see who the new people are on the floor.

I’m sure you’ll have no problem finding new friends, since you describe yourself as outgoing. There are tons of clubs on campus, and the informatics department seems to have several social gatherings. This past semester they had an outdoor party in early September, they have an annual Halloween party, and on finals week they offered a late-night pancake “breakfast” in one of the informatics buildings.

Oh okay thanks for the info! How are you liking informatics?

So far I really like it. My class last semester was fun, but it was also kind of unstructured, so I feel like I need to take another class to get a better understanding of the program as a whole. I’m pretty excited about my class next semester though; it should be interesting.

Another plus about the informatics program is that I haven’t had to buy a book for any of the classes so far. I think that I-201 will require books though.
