I am trying to transfer to NC State University for Computer Engineering. Here are my stats:

I did bad in high school, horrible GPA and SAT Scores

I am at CC with a 3.68+GPA. I worked very hard to turn my grades around.

Physics 1 (calculus based) B
Calc 1 B
Calc 2 B (Calc with hard professor)
Economics A
Psychology A
History A
Intro to Engineering A
JAVA Programming A
English 1 and 2 A, A
Chemistry A
Communication A
Intro to Computers A

Currently I am taking Calc 3 (Struggling because my instructor is VERY HARD in testing), Physics 2 Calculus based (tough class, conceptually) but have an very high B average, English Literature A.

Last semester (Fall 2011) Member of Mu Alpha Theta, couple hours of Volunteering.

How will I stand? Good, Bad?

Do I have a Chance at NC State University as a transfer student?

Thanks for reading and sharing any opinion!

I’m also trying to transfer into state. Remember at NCSU you have to apply to both the college of your major and the university as well. So you would apply to college of engineering. If your in state it will be much easier than out of state. I went on a visit not to long ago and spoke with there head of undergrad admissions, he told me that they don’t care what your grades were in high school they only care about what classes you took. You may need to take a foreign language if you didn’t in high school. And since you did bad in hs and if you are in a nc cc then get your 44 diploma and it will wipe away anything you did in hs, or get your associates in science. you need at least 30 credit hours before they will even consider you to transfer in. Also they are weird about there app dates if you are applying for next spring you’ve got to have everything in by the end of the summer. And if for next fall then apply around December. He told me the earlier you apply the more likely you will get accepted. Hope this helped.

Thanks for the reply! I applied to NCSU somewhere near January. My application is in under review, I got in to UNC Charlotte but still waiting for state’s decision. I am not getting my associates because the degree is meaningless and to me its a waste of time because some of the classes don’t transfer towards my 4-year degree. All I know is that calculus and physics grades are considered heavily towards engineering. I do have intro to engineering, JAVA programming, strong essay which I believe to be in my favor. There seems to be quite a big rush, so many people have applied to State. The major you apply to matters a lot, for mechanical, biomedical its very competitive. Good luck to you, hope you get in!

Let me know if you get accepted. I have to wait until I get 44 credit hours in the fall before I apply I’m shooting for the summer 1 of 2013. Good luck!
