Transfer student what are your reviews on these schools? Any advice?

Hi,

I’m now a Freshmen in college at a community college in South Carolina and I’m looking to go out of state for college
since the city I live in is too small.
Also, I want to find schools that doesn’t have an audition for their music industry program. (Long story on why)
My Freshmen year first semester GPA isn’t good:
It’s a 2.2 GPA. I wanted to do better but I was forced to take five classes.
Which was a bit too much for me. I did have input but, I was out ruled and I’m thinking about applying next year.
Here are some of the colleges that I’m looking at. I also, want to major in Computer animation:
Ringling College of Art and Design
Syracuse University - Computer art and the Bandier Program
California College of the arts
RIT - I’m not so sure.
SVA - Computer animation
UCF - Visited, didn’t like it much. Couldn’t find out more about their programs.
Drexel University - I really want to apply there but I’m getting mixed reviews and mostly bad. I have family who lives there and also in the Baltimore area since, I’m from there.
USC California - Animation program and maybe their music programs.
University of South Carolina - Media arts program. I visited my senior year and applied but I got rejected.
I’ve visited other schools and was rejected from them because my SAT score wasn’t good but my GPA was a 3.0 in high school.

Write my own songs I, draw and play the piano. I was in AP Music Theory and I got a C in it. It was difficult. I took one art class but the rest of the classes were graphic design classes in high school that I took.
I wanted to know how hard is it to get into these schools. Especially the Bandier Program because it’s in my top 5 now. I know they only accept 25 applicants and I want to cry because that program fits all my needs.
I know I have to get my GPA up to a 3.6 or higher.

Do you think I can do it? What are your reviews on these schools?

Do you want art or music? You seem conflicted.
My D went to Ringling for CA. The current acceptance rate is about 10 per cent (for CA major).
SAT is not required but they do expect good grades. While I don’t know of any particular GPA that is required they want students who have demonstrated that they can succeed and work hard.
Your portfolio is the most important part of your application. It should be focused on drawing from life (not photos), quick sketch showing action, figure drawing (again for CA). Learn perspective.
Computer animation is just that–you’ll find yourself 24/7 in front of a computer when it comes to working on your reel.
It’s demanding. Your “forced to take 5 classes” comment gives me pause.
Ringling is the top school for 3D CA and with it comes the price tag. Just saying to do the research on the tuitions of the schools on your list. Staying instate for a state school will be significantly cheaper. Why did you get rejected from U of SC? If you get your GPA up you may have better luck as a transfer student. Don’t look for merit money as a transfer student.

I love music personally(sing, write songs) but always found Music Theory difficult until I realized how math related it was. At that point I started to understand it.

Good luck to you!

@gouf78 I want to major in art but a minor in music.
So, that’s why I was conflicted.
