Transfer student

Hey guys. I currently attend GSU, I need to transfer into Emory by next year, probably going to aim for Fall 2017, since a counselor at Emory, told me that Fall transfers have better orientation than Spring. If I go up to 60-64 credits (that would make me a junior) with a GPA of 3.5 hopefully(right now I’m at 3.3 GPA with 27 credits). Does that put me at a good position for acceptance? And I’ve been hearing that it’s way easier to get in as a transfer student, preferably with more credits(max is 64 to transfer) because colleges in general like someone with college experience than high school experience, hence the easier way to get in. Is this true??? I’m just so confused , can anyone that knows accurate information regarding this explain to me please? Any information will be greatly valued. Thanks! \m/

You need to be careful not to randomly transfer to Emory (what is “need” to transfer?). If you plan on coming and completing one of the more rigorous majors, I can tell you right now that they may be reluctant to admit or that the transition will not be easy or worth it (if you aren’t willing to work harder than you did at GSU and have to resort to taking easy courses at Emory, then there is no point in transferring). I have a friend who transferred from GSU in the fall and the academic transition is not very smooth for her (she is pre-med) and she had a perfect GPA at GSU. Think hard before willy nilly “transferring up”. i would also consider options such as UGA unless you were a) in a harder than normal major or b) again, willing to work much harder. Note that even if you are transferring in as something like a psychology major, that is known to be significantly harder than at most schools, so be careful. Don’t ever feel this pressure of “needing” to transfer to a competitive environment unless you feel a need for an extra challenge. Without that need, there is no reason to transfer.

Hey thanks for replying. I really want to get accepted for personal reasons. But overall, do you think my chances of getting in as a transfer decent? I am willing to work hard, that’s one of the reasons I want to go there in the first place and I know that earning an “A” at Emory isn’t as easy as it is at GSU. I spoke to the admissions counselors at Emory and they’re all wonderful and brilliant people. I enjoyed talking to them and I was told to focus on my GPA. Several online sources say that most transfer students get accepted with a 3.3( http://www.collegetransfer.net/EmoryUniversity/TransferProfile/tabid/145/Default.aspx ). At the Emory transfer page it says 3.5. What do you think? And if I transfer 60 credits, would that boost my application instead of transferring say 30 or 40? Thanks I appreciate you taking the time to reply.

It should be around 3.4 or 3.5 unless you were a STEM major or something. They’ll likely set the bar higher depending on your major/coursework. I would definitely work hard to get it to 3.4-3.5 and write decent essays if you’re not a s STEM major.

Yea my major is biology so the standard is lower for me?

No @RS9719, he’s saying the opposite.

Ok Thanks.
