Transfer students 2009 (and hopeful 2010-ers)

Hi guys,

I'm a UCLA hopeful wanting to transfer from a CC for the Fall 10 quarter. I'm just wondering what your guy's stats are regarding admission.

09 transfers can you state what your major is and GPA for transfer?
10 transfers can you state what major you applied under and your current GPA?

As for me, I am trying to do Political Science and my GPA is 3.72. I saw the campus and fell in love with everything about bruin life.

Thanks!

BUMP! c’mon guys!

I am also a UCLA transfer hopeful for fall '10. I love you UCLA and can’t see myself anywhere else.

I am a second year. GPA is a 3.65. Tap certified. Global studies major.

SO EXCITED TO BE A BRUIN!..hopefully!!!

@der134ch310r: I am a 2009 transfer, and my GPA is only 3.5-3.6ish with no EC, volunteer or anything outstanding. I did do work-study while in college for a a while. But I still got accepted i into UCLA with pre-econ. So I think you have a good chance as a transfer student.

I dont care about the design of the school but I love the warm weather here.

I’ve applied for the fall 2010 semester as a Psych major. GPA is 3.74, and I have an excellent upward trend.

I like UCLA alot, and I would be happy to go there in the fall. UCB is my top choice though; I gotta rep the Bay Area. I would be happy and honored to be at either school though.

@Bruin321 I transfered in Fall 2009 with a similar GPA and was IGETC certified by a very good Community College. Asian Humanities Major. Probably didn’t have the ‘greatest’ list of accomplishments, but I owe it to my stunning essay.
I like your school spirit, though I wish the students here were more like you.

I honestly think the ECs and awards don’t really matter for a transfer provided they either have a good GPA (above 3.5) or they have TAP.

So provided you have either, you should be admitted. Well, at least that’s what I would have said before the budget cuts, but hopefully everyone is still in a good position to get in!

About a 3.65, with some volunteer work, and a decent essay. I’m applying as an English major, I love UCLA, and would give my left arm to attend. Well, maybe not my left arm lol.

Anyways, cool thread, it’s about time transfer students got a voice on here; keep em coming…

to Ella.N :thanks! how are you enjoying UCLA? Was it easy making new friends and what not?

UCLA has all the transfer admit stats online (by major with average GPA and units listed) at [url=http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof09_mjr.htm]Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2009 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions/url.

AskMsSun, I have a quick question:

I applied to UCLA as a Psych major, but I mentioned in my personal statement that I want to be a child psychiatrist. Being that I have literally no premed requirements done other than my English requirements, will this negatively affect my chances of being accepted? I’m a CCC transfer student, and I may just be a little antsy waiting lol and who knows, maybe I’m just over-thinking things, but I am worried that it may hurt my chances.

I know the UC’s like to get transfers in and out, so since I have so many requirements to still complete (I made this decision fairly recently and thought it would be better to save my premed courses for university) do you think my chance is affected?

I have pretty strong stats otherwise. Thank you tons for your insight!

4.0 GPA
TAP certified
2 year transfer
59 units completed at time of application, 71 completed by spring 2010
Communications Major
All prereqs available at my school completed
Student Government

UCLA is my last choice behind Haas/Berkeley and Marshall/USC

Hey thanks guys! It’s nice to see the stats of people that got in (@uclastudent1) and it helps calm my nervous mind that keeps worrying about whether i’ll be accepted!

@bruin321 and emilsinclair9 hopefully we’ll see each other next year!

hey guys i have a problem!

My CCC doesnt offer one of the prereqs needed for a UCLA transfer. Do you know what will happen if I dont have that?

emilsinclair9, UCLA should only consider your preparation for the major, not your future goals. UCLA has seen its share of students changing their minds about their future, so they know better :)

I know it’s a stressful time right now. Hang in there!

der134ch3l0r, Poli Sci is really competitive at UCLA, so having all the prereqs is essential to be competitive. You may want to consider finding another CCC to take the missing class.

@der134ch3l0r: You won’t be penalized for not having a prereq that isn’t offered at your CCC. I’ve spoken with many counselors, and they all say that if it’s not offered at your CCC, it’s not your fault if you don’t have that prereq completed.

You could seek another CCC to fulfill that requirement, but if you have everything else with a strong GPA/EC’s/PS’s/the usual, I can’t see your chances going down.

AskMsSun may be a better resource than me, in fact, I’m sure she is. I’d listen to her, but I was always under the impression that you’re not going to be penalized for a prereq not offered at your school.

For example, I applied to Berkeley philosophy, and I have none of the prereqs done because they’re not offered at my CCC. In fact, they’re not offered anywhere in the surrounding area at other CCC’s. Thus, there’s nothing I can do except take a few other philosophy courses that aren’t prereqs to demonstrate interest in the phil major.

@AskMsSun: Thank you for your response! That’s very relieving because I wasn’t sure if I would be viewed as unprepared for a future goal of mine. I really appreciate your help!

@emilsinclair9: You are very welcome. Regarding your response to der134ch3l0r, I am seeing more students gaining competitive edge over other students by enrolling at multiple CCCs to complete the requirements. From what I can tell, the practice is not yet widespread but will likely catch on as the budget cuts force students to search for classes across multiple CCCs.

@emilisinclair9: you may want to complete any lower division courses that required for your major at community so you can have more units and time in UC for other classes, double major or minor in something you interested in. If you can, try to finish any lower division courses, for another major that you could want to be in in the future.

AskMsSun & Emilsinclair9

Thanks for the responses! I think it might be a little too late for me to try and take that one class but I hope UCLA will accept me for what I have already completed.

@ Emilsinclair9

Thanks a lot for all of your responses! It seems like i see you on every thread relevant to where I applied have questions about! haha I really hope you get to where you really wanna go! hopefully we can meet of we go to the same school!
