Hi, I’m posting under my mom’s screen name.
I’m transferring to Bryn Mawr this year and I’m wondering how easy it is to make friends as a transfer. Are people friendly and open to making new friends?

We can be friends :)

I have not actually visited Bryn Mawr (I'll be a freshman in the fall :)), but its welcoming and friendly vibe played a great role in my choosing it over other schools. It's all I can say, really, but I do think that you won't have a hard time fitting in! The campus is small and beautiful, the community tight-knit, and the classes small. You'll meet so many people over and over again, that you won't have a problem, I believe. From where are you transfering?

Sarha, how hard was it to transfer? did you retake the SAT or ACT? and did you apply the first year and not get in, or was this your first try?

Sorry ab all the questions. i was waitlisted so I am thinking of applying as a transfer next year.

Hi, I'm answering for my D because she'll be gone for the rest of the summer.
She's very happy with the friendly responses she's gotten and said to say"thankyou".
Mandela, my D was accepted when she applied last year. She had a hard time turning them down and is happy to be going in September. She did have to reapply as a transfer. There is a seperate transfer form on the Bryn Mawr website that you can take a look at. It was a common app and an essay as I recall. You don't take the SAT's again. Take a look on the Bryn Mawr website under transfer apllicants for more info.
Don't go into school assuming you'll transfer, you'll probably grow to love school. My D went to a very rural school and she found the isolation depressing, but if not for that she actually liked her school.

yes, i am going to a very rural school as well. im from a huge city, so i am really nervous about that too. that is why i will probably consider transfering bc im really excited ab the actual school im going to... just not the location...

thanks for the reply! i hope your D loves Bryn Mawr!

Hi everyone,

I’m an admitted McBride student. I also got into UPenn LPS. I still haven’t found out financial aid from either so I might be stuck staying in NJ and going to Rider.

I’m wondering how you all feel about taking out loans? Frankly, it terrifies me. I want to study psychology.

I think I’d get a better education at Bryn Mawr for sure and like it a lot better there, but UPenn might better help me get into PhD programs, and I would probably have more research opportunities at Penn.

Does anyone have any thoughts? I’m kinda losing it with these decisions.

Thanks!

If you live in the area, I would strongly encourage you to set up appointments with faculty advisers in the psychology departments at both schools and have an honest conversation with them. For example, I know that undergraduate students in another department at Penn have a really hard time getting involved in research because the faculty don’t want to “waste time” on undergraduates. Things like that you would want to find out about before you make a decision. You could also ask both departments about the graduate school placements of their undergraduates.

Good luck!
