Do they like the fact that I'm trying to transfer to another college?

Haha, mine doesn't. After giving me a huge lecture, interrogating me for my rationale, he practically had me walking out of his office in tears. I felt like I was abandoning my first child or something. He definitely made it clear that not only did he take this as a huge insult -- but that I was delusional and making a huge mistake for leaving the all-wonderful department he so epically built.

Haha. But don't worry, most professors will never show any aversion towards your wanting to transfer.

my reasons for transferring made it so that the profs were more than happy to give me a good recommendation.

One of my professors always offers recommendations, without even asking. I was talking to him in his office one day and he asked me whether I had recently transferred. I mentioned that I was actually looking to transfer to a different school and he said he would give me a recommendation. My boyfriend also had him and at the end of the year he offered to give him a recommendation as well if he ever decided to go to grad school. He's such a lovely guy. I wish all professors were that helpful

Mine not only wrote my rec but wrote a rec for a scholarship on my behalf incase I stay, which I will recieve.

Just always go to office hours a few times and be personable. I have strong relationships with 3 proffs. and average with 2, and they dont mind you transferring- all mine just wnat me to be challenged and to succeed

Transfer students! How did you get your recommendation from professors?

i used telepathy with all three.

oh and janel, did u read the rec. ? i mean, if he's that against it... wonder what he wrote in it...

haha, if only that worked.

No I haven't read the rec.

That is a possibility -- but not one that I really want to think about.

Wow, going to a CC, I never considered the implications of asking for transfer recommendations at a 4-year. I'm glad I get to avoid that potential drama.

I simply asked.

We made small talk, I told them my reasons, they all said ok. Some professors even asked me if they could write a recommendation after I told them I was applying to transfer.

I wrote a paragraph on each college saying why I want to transfer there, one P of why I want to leave my current school, and then met with them individually to talk about it. I like to talk with professors after class or in their office about the course so I'm fairly close with most of them.

Wow, I sound like a complete nerd. haha

For me, this was one of the hardest parts of the transfer process. For instance, I wanted to get a recommendation from a professor for whom I am currently a TA. I hoped that our relationship wouldn't change if he knew I was leaving. It was a hard conversation to have and he tried to convince me I was crazy to leave. But, if you are so deadset on transferring, you just need to bite the bullet.

On the otherhand, I had a professor who was totally accepting that I was transferring and said that I shouldn't be at a place I didn't love.

So, my advice is just do it and have confidence in your choice. Remember, it's your life, no matter how much the professor may disagree.

If there's a visiting professor that you're taking a class with, that could be a good option

Everyone I talked to completely understood. I don't think anyone actually likes this place...lol

Haha , my professor told me that if I get accepted , to get him a job.

I don't know who said it, but someone on here had recommended something really simple:

Ask whether or not they can write a positive rec. for you. That'll help you sort out the good profs. from the bad ones, and not have to worry that one of them may try to screw you over.

my professor said that he/she hoped that I would get rejected. I hope she /he was being sarcastic.

maybe more a matter of "I like you, and would hate to see you go." I doubt a professor who likes you would write a bad rec on purpose

I believe that's not a fair option.

I got a disapproving comment from a professor when I asked for midterm grades. She went to Yale btw. I couldn't believe that she of all people was unable to relate.
