transfer students?

Hey, all! I was accepted as a transfer student for Case, and I'm seriously considering transfering there. I'm a rising sophomore from Columbus, OH, and spent my freshman year at UNC-Chapel Hill. Any other people considering a transfer to Case? Any advice?

what don't you like about unc? what are you hoping case's education will provide you that you aren't getting now? or is it being far from home??

UNC is a great school, but it just doesn't fit me at all. For one thing, it's a very large public university, and felt very impersonal -- especially for an Out-of-state student. This past year, I was dissapointed at how few of my classes were taught by professors. In fact, my biology lab was led by an undergraduate sophomore. I guess that would be tolerable if he was just there to give directions and help the students out. However, this TA who was younger than many of the students in that class also graded all of our labs. I feel that was very irresponsible of the school. That's why I'm looking into much smaller, private universities to transfer to.

Another thing about UNC is that there is nothing to do if you choose not to drink on the weekends. There are university-hosted events, but no one attends them. I joined groups like the Young Democrats, and the ASA, but those groups seemed to be more interested in social bar and club events than its real purpose. I joined the Young Democrats to learn about politics, not to attend Happy Hour Drink Nights every week.

I may be being a bit unfair. Most people love UNC, and it's not all bad. I guess for my personality, it just doesn't fit right. Students there are very cliquey, and all about image. I've visited and been at Case a few times, and I really enjoy the atmosphere and feeling of the campus and the students there.

rubbs77, the best thing to do is spend as much time as possible on campus meeting students and faculty and attending some classes. Perhaps also meeting with someone in your intended department going over next fall's schedule of classes would be a good way to get a feel for Case. Unfortunately, the spring term is now over and everyone is gone. There are summer sessions but thats not the same.

I assume you already realize that Case is a much more engineering and science-oriented school than UNC. And the image thing? Case is unpretentious across the board.

Case is not a match for everyone, but from what you've posted I think you'll like it. Go for it!

Thanks! Yes, I have visited and met with students already. That's what really drew me in as well -- a completely different feel than UNC.

Sry to bother you. But I'm guessing since you applied and went to UNC and now want to go to Case, you know a lot more about Wake and Case than I do. The thing is I'm a transfer too but from Rutgers. I felt the same way about Rutgers that you felt about UNC. But I haven't visited neither schools.

So, like do you know, which is better WFU or CWRU in terms of life/academics/etc?

I don't know too much about Wake because I've never been there but I can tell you my friend's experience. I have a friend from high school who went to Wake first semester of last year, and trasferred away to Miami U (in Ohio) after just one semester. She hated it at Wake. Her main complaint is that she was not used to the Southern culture. At UNC, it was not that much different from life in the North. However, my friend said that at Wake, she could definitely feel the change. For one thing, students at Wake she said dressed up all the time. To football games, girls would wear cocktail dresses, and the people seemed stuck up. I know it doesn't sound like a big deal, but she just seemed to really dislike the culture there. That's why she left after just 1 semester.

What I do know about Case is that it's a very diverse school. Students there are really nice and it's a good atmosphere to study, live, and have fun in. I'm strongly leaning toward transferring there. I am just waiting to find out more about my credit transfers.

good luck to you!
