where's the best palce to live for transfer students? My daughter will be a sophomore, and she really doesn't want to do the dorm thing again. Do they let transfers into the apts?

They do, as far as I know.

nerbsmom, where did your d transfer from? S thinks that he has to stay at a UCONN satellite for two years before being able to transfer into the main campus. Do you know anything about this?

As far as I know that is true, when I applied out of high school I was accepted to a regional campus and in the admissions packet it said that I would have to spend 2 years at the regional campus before going to Storrs.

That's what I thought but I've seen a couple of times where kids transferred as Sophmores. That must mean that they are coming from other than satellite campuses? I wonder if you need to do 2 years at the CSUs before transferring also. Would it be easier to go to ECSU for a year & try than to do the satellite in Hartford and try? Just thinking ahead as S is on the deferred list still...

I don't think you have to do 2 years at Eastern, or any other state school because they are not directly related to uconn, they have separate administrations and are separate colleges. I am an instate kid and know people who I graduated with who went to SCSU or ECSU who have transferred to uconn after freshman year, even a few who transferred after the fall semester of their freshman year. I chose not to attend the regional campus because I didn't want to live at home and I really wanted the full college experience. I am currently at an out of state school and was just accepted to the main campus of uconn for fall 09. I think it depends on the person and what they want.

Thank you, are you a sophmore too? That was useful information & I'll tell my S. He too would prefer to live away rather than commute for two years to Hartford. Even though, personally I wouldn't mind at all. He would choose Eastern. Good luck at UCONN & Congrats about being accepted!

Thanks! Yeah, I'll be a sophomore next year, maybe at uconn, I'm still looking at my options and such, but I'll most likely end up there. I'm glad that I choose to not attend a regional campus, I just like think that it wouldn't have been the right choice for me. If I had applied to other state schools (like my parents wanted me to) I would have been there this year haha.
