I'm applying to transfer next year and am hoping to study abroad my second semester. However, I did horrible during my first 2 years at CC and have since then retaken the classes and raised my gpa from around a 2.1 to a 3.5ish. When applying for study abroad programs, will I be applying with my UC gpa (the As/Bs are counted instead of the Fs), or will the Fs be counted in too?

Typically, once you retake a course, only the new grade counts. However, you will still have to put down the F’s in the UC application.

There will be an academic history portion on the app, so you’ll have to put down every single grade you’ve received including the ones that aren’t UC transferable, taken for Pass/No Pass, W’s, I’s, etc.

Again, the failed courses usually don’t count once you retake the courses, but I’d check with a campus counselor.

Thank you very much!

After you transfer to a UC, you will start with a clean slate - meaning your GPA from your community college will not transfer over. This is important because if you’re planning on applying to study abroad through the UCEAP program (especially a program that has a GPA requirement), they evaluate you on the UC GPA after you transfer.

I transferred to UCLA last fall and I am studying abroad in Japan for 2014-2015. I submitted my study abroad application during my first quarter. UCEAP made sure my fall quarter grades were above a 3.0 GPA before accepting me into the program. In most cases, you’re also required to maintain whatever GPA requirement is set before you depart for your study abroad destination.
