Hello! I’m honestly not sure if this is the correct board to be posting on, but be patient with me! If there’s a better subforum let me know.
So I’m turning 24 this upcoming winter and I’m very close to my undergraduate degree, but at this point with the cost of my home institution as well as my plans for the future, I’m considering a transfer. I only have 2 trimesters to a year left at my home institution. What I really want to do is study abroad to Japan–I’m near-fluent, and as far as further improvement goes, I believe the best way to go about it would be immersion. But of course very few institutions want you completing your senior year abroad, and even fewer of them would even consider letting a transfer student do that.
Because of this, I thought… maybe transferring to a Japanese school. But I have NO clue if this is even possible. First of all, I have my existing loans and payment to worry about, as far as I can find no Japanese schools will take Federal unsubsidized loans, much less the Pell grant I become eligible for this upcoming academic year. I don’t even know if they’d take the credits I’ve accumulated at my home institution.
I’m doing research on my end of course, I’ve identified some useful sources, but it’s a lot of info to wade through and I figured while I’m working on my end I’d post a question, just in case someone has done this before and can answer quick. I understand that as far as “the most economical” choice goes… this won’t be it. I’m essentially forfeiting my Pell grant if I finish my degree abroad. But if I can find a relatively affordable way to do this, it’s still going to be my ideal choice.
