Transfer thread

So to all you that have transferred to FSU:
what was your GPA like from your CC or University?

4.0, from a CC

just got in 3.93 from MDC,
Accounting

Congratulations!

Excellent work.

well done! a bit nervous :P

Let’s keep this going.  :D

3.4 gpa also from mdc. Major Intl. Affairs.

int’l affairs - what kind of prereqs do you need for that? :D

graduated from mdc with a 3.51 and transferring in as a geology major. debating whether to double major in environmental studies

what do you want to do with your degree, rod?

I am still not sure but I have a great interest in the field of Earth Science

rod, how long did it take for them to give you the decision.
like when did you submit all the materials and when did you get the verdict? hah.

Hi,

My daughter has submitted an application to transfer from UCF to FSU (International Affairs major) for Fall 2009 semester. She completed her AA with a 4.0 from BCC and received a 3.4 this past semester at UCF, her cumulative gpa is now 3.89.

She did not directly transfer to FSU from BCC due to the lack of meeting the requirement for 2 consecutive foreign language classes, which she will have met by Fall 2009. What is the average transfer applicants gpa? Does anyone have an idea of where she will fall?

Thank you!
Nikki

nikki,
i’ve called and asked, and they don’t really have an average GPA for transfers. if you have an AA, you definitely have an advantage. you receive priority. does she have an AA?
i don’t think you have to worry. she has a good GPA.

Having a 3.89 gpa with all requirements for an AA plus the coursework FSU wants will likely get you admitted as a transfer student. Note that it is sometimes necessary to compete for a slot in an upper division program that is termed “limited access”.

sophiegirl,

I applied around Janurary and got a decision in late March

they told me 4-6.
wow, that seems super fast!

Thank you both for your responses. We’ve had a difficult time determining what the odds of acceptance are since there really is such little information (outside of minimum 3.0 etc.) regarding transfer standards. I’m also not certain where a 3.89 cumulative gpa (74 credit hours) falls in general standards these days? Is that average or on the high end?

Does anyone know if they look at the gpa for her AA (which was a 4.0)? or focus on the most recent gpa at UCF (which was a 3.4)? or is it just a mixture of all components considered?

Thanks again,
Nikki

Lastly, my daughter started a semester but was unable to finish – it was too late to drop/withdraw and incompletes were not an option. As a result, she essentially received three “F” grades. She re-took those classes and received A’s once her health was back up to par and did grade forgiveness. On FSU’s requirements for admission it plainly states that one must “Have at least a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) cumulative GPA on all college work attempted.” Does this apply to the grades forgiven? Or?

Thanks again!
Nikki

You need to call. FSU itself no longer offers grade forgiveness to its own students, and every one of the grades earned at FSU remains on the transcript and in the GPA. We would have no idea how they handle that for transfers. You would be best off to speak with an admissions counselor. Most students with circumstances visit FSU to meet with an admissions counselor to understand where they stand and what is or is not taken into consideration in considering their admission. Was that a semester at BCC? or UCF? She needs to call or email at this point if a visit is not possible. I think they will look at the overall GPA including ALL courses taken, and they will look at the most recent college semester. Even with the problem semester, she looks like a strong transfer candidate. Good Luck.
