Transfer Thread

I haven't seen one of those for UVa, and I figure it'd be useful. Did anyone else's status change on the SIS page? Mine went from complete to view decision, but when I click on that, it says I can't view my decision until 5/1.

haha, have you speculated? it might be their decision was easy because you’re either really awesome and were accepted…or really not awesome and… :(

Can you post your stats? Did you apply for second or third year?

I’m trying to get a feel for what it takes to transfer (particularly transferring into second year) since I really do not think i want to be at LSU for four years…

I have that same message. I am applying for second year standing. I have a 4.0 at a small private university in MA.

i applied for second year, if you really want my stats, you can scan my previous posts

I’m still a touch nervous about my app. SIS says it’s incomplete b/c it’s missing my transcript from Haverford College. I’m a Bryn Mawr student so as part of the bi-college consortium I can take classes there and they come up on my bryn mawr transcript. Anyone familiar with the bi-co would know this information and when I called UVA they said that it was fine and it may just be like that on SIS. Yet, I’m still worried. Am I making myself too nervous or do I have a reason to be unnerved?

P.s. rollz 4 I saw you on the UNC-CH discussion. How exactly are you weighing UNC to UVA if you get in?

accepted to unc and waiting on mcintire. its a huge reach and i think im gonna be flat out denied.

junior transfer
3.6 major GPA
3.84 current college GPA
strong essays
strong extracurriculars/ internships

i’d probably head to charlottesville (if i got in), but it also depends on how my credits shake out. almost all of my credits transfer to unc, and i dont know how many will go to uva.

soph transfer
applied to the college, out of state
3.5 in hs, 2200 sat
3.93 in college (chem-econ double major)

rollz4,

ur @ Villanova, right?

that is correct

nice man.

congrats on carolina! I think I’m choosing UNC over UVA if I get in, but I’m pretty sure I’m denied from McIntire.

thanks dude, i was really happily surprised about unc…i guess if you can’t beat em, join em (lame basketball pun intended)

even though i applied to the college at uva, im still not convinced one semester of good college work can erase 4 years of mediocre high school grades. we’ll see

well ill tell you it definitely helps if you have bad SAT scores.

My SAT scores were atrocious and I applied to Miami for Spring transfer and been here since Spring Freshmen year but I was stupid for leaving my original university so I applied back to large, public universities. But one semester at Maryland and my grades/ extracurriculars in hs helped alot with my admission to Miami, because I would’ve never gotten in with my SAT scores.

Ah Nova. It’s nice to have some Philly area representation (I go to Bryn Mawr). Congrats on getting as far as you guys did this year in basketball. It’s always fun to be in town when there’s a Villanova game on.

And BruinsJEW, don’t be so down on getting into McIntire. Transfer apps are even more of a crapshoot than regular admission. I was definitely not excpecting to get into UNC and look what happened. It would be nice to get into UVA because of Instate tuition, but if I don’t, UNC is one damn good school.

Yeah, that View Decision thing was a MEAN trick. I was all excited and then the University STOLE IT.

thanks emma problema. i think i would definitely get into College of Arts & Science for UVA but not McIntire and I don’t think if you applied for McIntire they’ll consider you for CAS and I’m as unsure as to whether you can transfer in from CAS to McIntire as a transfer.

Actually, I’m in a similar situation, BruinsJEW. I really wanted to go to Commerce, but didn’t know if I’d get in, while I knew I would get in to Arts & Sciences (I fulfilled all of the GAA requirements). So, I contacted the office of admission and they said that YES, you can apply to Commerce and, if you aren’t offered admission, we can consider you for Arts & Sciences. All you have to do is mention it somewhere in your application.

Seeing as how they’re probably already over halfway done with transfer applications, I’m not sure if you can still do this.

Yeah,

But if you transfer into A&S, can you transfer after a semester or so into McIntire if your performance in A&S is strong.

I definitely think you can transfer into Commerce from Arts & Sciences, though I’m fairly sure you’d have to transfer in after a full year. The ICE program is a year-long program where you’re assigned to a small group of peers that you stay with throughout the year. If you were to transfer in after one semester you would’ve missed out on half of the ICE program.

So yeah, if you transferred in as a third-year to Arts & Sciences with the intention of transferring to Commerce, you’d have to plan on spending at least five years at UVA (two years for Commerce).

I’m 99% sure about this – if this isn’t accurate, someone feel free to correct me.

If you would be going into the College of Arts and Sciences as a junior then I don’t believe you would be able to transfer into McIntire the following year. I remember reading somewhere, although I couldn’t find it again after a quick search through the UVA website, that students transferring in as juniors are only allowed two year, not including summer semesters, to complete their coursework at UVA.
