I'm going to apply to DAAP (my first choice). I don't really have the most glamorous track record (28 ACT, ~3.55 HS GPA) so I'm kinda worried about not getting accepted into the ID program. I'm considering retaking the ACT to boost my chances (most likely will). I'm gonna be a transfer (OOS, current first time freshman). I've been constantly contacting daap-admissions to show them that I'm very interested in going to Cincy. If anyone can share any tips to raise my chances of getting in, that would be greatly appreciated. Also, on a side note, how much do OOS students get in UC-awarded scholarships?

I’m going to be a freshman in the DAAP ID program this fall. A higher ACT would really improve your chances of getting in. You also have to write a personal statement and list your volunteer/other involvements. I spent a good amount of time writing the best response I could because besides your GPA and ACT, that I’d the only thing admissions looks at. UC was the only school I wanted to attend, so I put as much time into it as possible.

I am also coming from OOS. the only scholarship I am receiving is from the Cincinnatus scholarship competition. If you are OOS you will receive an additional amount of $3500 (it is 3500 or 3000, I cant remember exactly) each year on top of what you get awarded from the competition.

Retake the ACT. Just a point or two will get you in for sure. If you are depending on transfers, you would need at least a 3.5 in college, which is no easy feat.

Wow, thanks a lot for the tips! I’m definitely taking the ACT now and test prepping which I never did so I’m hoping that’ll help push my score to 30.

@amyjohnson117: I’m in the application page and I can’t see an option to write a personal statement or EC’s. I would’ve loved to write that I made it to one national competition and won several state level competitions, and that I can speak 4 languages. :(

Just an update on my stats (which I just found out). I ranked 32 of 337 students and my GPA is 3.7. I didn’t get my transcript until recently so I was only guessing what my GPA was. Wish me luck!

Hey I am applying to the DAAP School of Architecture, im not sure of how i am look. I have a 3.05 GPA at a very competitive High School, My high school doesnt do class rankings and my Sat is a 1090, but i retook that and i am waiting for my scores to get back. I am taking the ACT for the first time later in the month. Does anyone that has applied have an idea of what my chances are, Im still gonna apply no matter what but i would love someones opinion now. Thank You.

I get the impression that UC is very stats-oriented so it would really help if you had a stunning ACT or SAT score. Work hard to raise those scores up. Apply anyways :)

This is from the Architecture Admissions Requirement webpage:

"The academic credentials of the pool of applicants seeking admission to the School of Architecture and Interior Design vary each year. This program is highly competitive and has a limited number of spaces available.

The freshman class profile for Architecture is based on the middle 50% of the 2010 entering freshman class:

GPA: 3.680 - 4.000
ACT: 28 - 32
SAT: 1250 – 1370
Average Class Rank: Top 13.2%
We share these numbers to give you an idea of the “typical” credentials of students accepted into our programs. Scoring within this range (or outside of it) is not a guarantee of admission or denial."

Absolutely apply as Bakkara says, but these statistics show what the mid 50 percent of those admitted had achieved academically. It doesn’t mean that you need those stats to be admitted, but you’d have to consider it a reach, given the stats you quote.
