Hi,

Currently, I just finished my freshman year at a well respected university in the west. For my freshman admissions I mainly concentrated on schools that prepare students well for med school and have strong programs in the sciences. At the time, I was not very sure what I wanted to do with my life. I suppose in high school I just tried to do well in everything and consequently, had no idea what I actually enjoyed. Since I was little, my parents had decided that I would become a doctor and I had never questioned it until this year. However, after some research I became very interested in economics. Although I like my school, it does not offer a strong program in this field. The school mostly concentrates on sciences and engineering. After some thought, I decided that perhaps I could transfer to some other university which would provide the academics and opportunities I am looking for. My current plan is to major in economics and complete my pre-med requirements, because I have finished at least half of them and got good grades.
I read a lot of threads on college confidential and the transfer information on Cornell's website. However, I am still unsure if I should try to transfer into AEM or Economics (in the Arts and Sciences). I do not think that the Econ major offered by ILR would fit me well. My main concern is that AEM is very difficult to transfer into to (especially after sophomore year). Is it any easier to transfer into the economics major? I have looked into both programs and they both seem to interest me. Econ because it focuses on theory and is more math based, which I have always enjoyed. AEM because of the networking and more applicational approach which also interests me.
I am sorry for such a long post. I would be thankful for any advice that I could get regarding my situation.
