So I am going to my local community college (Burlington County College, in New Jersey) for at least the fall semester of 2015-2016 as a part of NJSTARS which allows me to go to community college free if I’m in the top 15% of my high school class. Now, for many reasons, I chose not to enroll in Rutgers, which had accepted me, but I’ll just say I have no worries about getting in to American as a transfer student-that is not my question.
My question is about financial aid for transfer students at American. I was considering either transferring for spring semester (I’d already have 15-18 credits at American from AP tests) or going a full year at my community college and then transferring for the fall semester of my sophomore year. I was wondering how much aid (excluding loans) I can expect to get from American. My expected family contribution is $0 due to my dad’s income being around $26k a year and my mom’s only income being child support from my dad.
So I was curious with that in mind how much money I would get in aid. Also, would it be more advantageous for me financially speaking to transfer for the upcoming spring semster, taking only one semester at my community college, or fulfill a whole year at my community college and transfer to American for my sophomore.
My major would be international relations btw. Thanks in advance!
