Transfer to Columbia from another "ivy"

I am a cornell freshman, don't really like it, had strong hs stats, didn't get into columbia as a freshman, and i know that columbia takes few transfers.

My hs stats were strong, 97, 1450, 740/750/740 sat IIs, got into chicago, NW, Duke, and Cornell, Emory, and Rice

somehow i ended up at cornell......

Now, i am looking into transfer to UPenn Brown or Columbia. What do you think, what kind of first semester gpa do i need here?

Taking 16 credits for grade, 2 are pass/fail

I think it may be too soon to decide that you don't like Cornell. After all, you liked something about it over all of the other wonderful/competitive schools to which you were accepted. It would definitely be to your benefit at this point to try to think about those "positives" which helped you make your decision to enroll at Cornell. There is going to be an adjustment period at any school and it may be that's what you're going through right now. I would make an appointment with your advisor or counselor to discuss your unhappiness and it may be that what you are feeling is simply that sadness that many freshmen feel the first semester of college. My son is now a freshman at Columbia and is still "adjusting."

What is it about it that you don't like? If you don't have a solid reason for wanting to leave, then it probably is just worries that you would also experience elsewhere.

Also, Columbia has recently taken many students from Tulane as temporary students for this year and maybe next. So I've heard that transfering here will be very, very difficult.

Many top schools (Columbia, Penn, Berkeley, etc) have accomadated displaced Tulane students and as a result, have had to change their transfer admissions process for this year and the next. Needless to say, there will be fewer spots available for transfer admissions and I'm guessing you'll need a VERY good reason to justify the transfer.

its not that at all, i never really wanted to go to any of the schools i got accepted to, and have come to realize that i made the wrong decision by coming to cornell, NW or Duke would have been much better. I have met a couple of other dissatisfied customers who turned down the likes of Duke and NW that are upset that they didn't go.

What are you so dissatisfied with so early on and what makes you believe you would be happier at Duke or NW?

Classes have been in session for what, 4 weeks? Give it some time...

i want columbia though!!!!, should have done ED there....instead i wasted it on a school that just screwed me over

well you aren't alone, every school has people like that. (just ask columbia-hating slipper1234)

I think 4 weeks is a little bit too soon to consider a transfer. Just give it some time and you might find your "niche" at Cornell. I know that Cornell is one of the larger Ivies and some Cornell students have complained about large, impersonal lower division lectures, but there are always ways to make the campus seem smaller. Good ways to do this include attending your professor's office hours regularly, joining a campus club or organization, and participating in campus events. I also felt a bit homesick my freshman year and didn't really feel like I vibed with the campus I was attending, but I was able to develop really good friendships with people on my floor freshman year and this really helped in the initial transition from high school to college.

that sort of whining, ungrateful attitute is NOT going to let you transfer...I doubt that such a quality school as Cornell is "screwing you over"

I think he meant that his ED school "screwed him over" (that he was rejected) -- not Cornell.

Bball started a thread complaining about how our mean SAT scores are too low for him and the student body is sub-par...incase you guys were wondering.
