Transfer to Columbia? Recommendation confusion??

“Three letters of recommendation: two Academic Evaluations from college professors and one from an advising dean or academic adviser”
That’s what it says on Columba’s website.
But then on Common Application, it says my recommendations have been completed. And it says there are only 2 recommendations required, but three are allowed. I am so confused.
Does anyone know if 2 or three are required?

I believe that the third “recommendation,” if it can be called that, is the statement on your college report that you’re in good standing.

But if you have any question, contact Columbia directly, just to be sure.

in your posting history, you mention that you deferred to take a year off. If you actually haven’t attended college, are you certain you should be applying as a transfer student? That’s usually the purview of college Freshmen and Sophomores. You’ve not enrolled/taken any college class after HS, right?

Three are required: 2 Academic and 1 Adviser.

@dodgersmom‌ College report and a recommendation from an adviser are different. The website listed them as separate entities.

If you check Columbia transfer thread, some people called the school and asked the exactly same question. The school said follow what’s on the website: recommendation from an advisor is required. Common Application always can have some glitches. It’s always safer to follow the school website, if those two are giving conflicting information. Or, simply, you can call the school and figure it out.

Best of luck!

@transferringbud @20transfer17 thank you for the help!

@T26E4 I’ve taken university classes after high school and have a university GPA! I’m just a visiting student at my local university instead and have transferred these scores to the university I’ve deferred admission to :stuck_out_tongue:

what did admissions tell you?
