Is it possible for me to transfer into Columbia University Engineering? I messed up in high school and my gpa was a 2.0, I went on to City Tech and my GPA is currently a 4.0. I have a perfect SAT score, and my score for SAT subject tests for Math and Physics is perfect as well.

Really? 2400 SAT, 800 on subject tests, but a 2.0 in high school? Your high school GPA will bring you down, for sure. What are your extracurricular activities? They matter as well.

I know there’s a huge discrepancy, but I really had fun during high school. I only started to care about college during senior year, when my counselor told me that my GPA was going to matter more than my perfect SAT score. I was naive enough to believe otherwise. And, I was on the wrestling team for three months(kicked off because of low grades) and was president of the documentary club all 4 years.

Your high college GPA shows that you have improved, so keep it up. Additionally, clarify your reasons for transferring by writing a good essay and obtain good recommendation letters from professors. Good luck.

Not sure. I know the liberal arts college prefers their transfers to come in as Sophomores, not juniors, which works against you with the HS record. I’m not sure about their engineering school. Check the website and see if you can fulfill all the pre-reqs in the core to transfer in as a Junior. If you can, you MAY have a chance if you have dramatic EC’s, a compelling reason for transferring, and a compelling argument to dispel those HS grades, however if you can’t transfer in as a Junior, then no, chances are slim to none.
