transfer to columbia... worth a shot, or a waste of time and money?

Hey over there, I'm a freshman at NYU CAS and I was just wondering whether or not I should consider transferring to Columbia College. It's been my dream school since ninth grade, but obviously I didn't get in unfortunately, but I might take a shot again.

GPA: So far I'm doing okay, probably around 3.8 minimum...
ECS: I'm currently doing some volunteer community service and work, but my EC's are not at all comparable to what I had before I came here. In high school, I published a book, had several leadership positions, designed clothes, painted murals, did community service, etc etc.
LoR: This is a problem. I don't really know any of my professors in person yet. There is still some time until the deadline, but I can't guarantee that I'll get stellar recommendations. My grades are fine, but it's a matter of standing out.
SAT: 2250
Essays: I'm confident in this area. Hopefully they'll be good enough to make up for other areas
High School GPA: Valedictorian... obviously that had to be a small high school.

Do you think it's worth a shot? It's so hard to decide because unless you're stellar in everything you can't guarantee whether you're wasting your time or not. And especially since it's only been two months of college, and it's a hassle to think about transferring when you're still getting used to the new environment. And transferring is not an easy process, getting those high school transcripts and all that... Can someone please help me out?

Oh and I'm an international student. Forgot to mention that =)

bump bump... anyone?

I think your fishing for compliments

You are a qualified candidate, but stellar recommendations and statements, not to mention a nearly spotless record at NYU, are required of you. Beyond that, we cannot speculate anything.

thanks for your feedback (waywardtrojan), but do they weigh more on high school records or are they also critical on the first semester college? I mean, high school is four years and college is only a semester... do you think some slips on college EC's and recommendations matter that much? i'm so hesitant because of that 00

i also don't want to be wasting all that time and money if it's an unrealistic reach. i've heard that admission rate is about 3% (?!) and I have no idea if I am considered to be competitive out of all other people just as eager to get in...

Admissions rates, insofar as I am aware, are around 8%, which is still dismally low. Your college transcript is the most important component, followed by your high school transcript/standardized test scores.
