Transfer to Columbia

Is it possible for me to transfer into Columbia University Engineering? I messed up in high school and my gpa was a 2.0, I went on to City Tech and my GPA is currently a 4.0. I have a perfect SAT score, and my score for SAT subject tests for Math and Physics is perfect as well. I was president of the documentary club for four years and I was in the top 100 in the Putnam competition last year

Umm, wow… you probably really could. I feel like going from a 2.0 in high school to a 4.0 with perfect SATs in college is pretty unheard of. However, you should know transferring into Ivies is much harder than applying as a freshman, so you’ll have to write good essays and continue to get involved. I really hope you’re not being hypothetical or lying, frankly speaking.

Seems like you’re not challenged at City Tech. Aim high, but I wouldn’t bet on getting into Columbia. However, definitely apply. I don’t know the full story here, but it seems like you have a pretty good story of personal growth behind such a shift in academic performance and that’s definitely something that can raise eyebrows in a nit-picky admissions office like Columbia’s.

You were top 100 in putnam…?

Yes, you have a chance, but your high school record will be scrutinized.

The school may have grade deflation, idk. He may be a lazy, but bright student, thus explaining the “perfect SAT scores”. However, it does sound rather fishy.

It’s obvious that many people are suspicious right about now and this thread can’t continue. OP, post a picture of the letter you received from the MAA, or a picture of your computer screen on your SAT score, something, that will allay suspicions and allow people to give you honest advice.
