I chose to take a risk by choosing UCI undeclared, even though I know how hard it is to transfer into mechanical engineering. I am prepared to put in my all into trying to transfer into engineering, but sometimes there isn’t space. I was wondering what I would need in order to transfer from a UC into a CSU if that were the case.
Look at the CSUs you’re intrerested in and check their specific requirements for engineering transfers if any. But usually, you just need to have 60+ transferable units (though some campuses do accept sophomore transfers, so check that out. I believe AP credit does count) and you’ll most likely be better off completing all major pre-requisite classes as outlined on the department websites as well as on assist.org.
Other than that you should be solid.
I heard that when transferring they ask for letters of recommendation as well. Is that true?
CSU’s do not ask for LOR’s.
Thank you!
I’d cross that bridge when you get there. Make the most of UCI - take the required classes and be mindful of the GPA requirements. If you don’t qualify, you can look at an alternate major or another school.
good luck.
I agree with NCalRent. Stick with UCI and try to get into Mechanical Engineering there. If you can’t, then look to transfer.
