Transfer to Econ/Accounting

Hey CC, I'm going to community college for my first two years, then would really like to transfer to UW for Econ or Accounting. How hard is it to get in/what is the average transfer GPA to these programs? If any transfer students would like to share their stories that would be greeeat.

Accounting is only offered through the school of business so you must be accepted to that school if you want to major in it. I think you have to earn a certain amount of credits at UW so you should probably look into that. Their website is [Prospective Transfers - Undergraduate Programs - UW-Madison School of Business](http://www.bus.wisc.edu/undergrad/transfer/prospective.asp)

For econ, once you are accepted to the school in general, you can just declare that as your major.

Getting into the B School is very competitive. Unless you are coming from a UW 2 year cmapus you’ll need to take some classes at UW first, then apply. Econ is essentially open to all.

Barrons-Nope, I’m coming from a CC in the suburbs of Chicago. This is off topic but UW has a good Econ program, right?

Yes, around Top12 or so. Econ is one are they want to beef up with the new Madison Initiative just approved that will put more funding into the liberal arts.

For the moment I’ve decided that I want to do Econ. Does anybody know the average transfer GPA for Econ? Would a 3.5 with good EC’s look good?

No, problem as there are no special restictions for econ. The major is getting overrun with students though and class sizes are larger.
