Sooo I emailed GW admissions about changing from Columbian to Elliot before the start of freshman year, and they said all I needed to do was email back a "petition" with my name, GWid, and reason for changing. First of all, when I type my reason, are they looking for a full-on essay, or just a few sentences? Because my reason can be summed up in one sentence: I thought Poli Sci was what I wanted to do, but after further research, I realized International Affairs was the particular aspect of Poli Sci I was interested in and more suited to my career interests. I really don't want to type more than a paragraph, but I'd like the petition to work. What's the optimal amount of writing and what does one usually say in these things? Also, how often do these petitions usually work? And finally, if I decide to go back to Columbian, is it easy to transfer back? Will I have to take a bunch of classes I otherwise wouldn't of have needed to take by staying put at Elliot? Thanks!

Please respond ASAP, I’m trying to make a decision on which college to choose before the end of the week. Also, should I format the petition like a letter?

Are you undergrad or grad? Because on the common app I didn’t even have a choice of which GW school to apply to only which major I’m planning on taking and I chose international relations. You got me worried! I think I’ll give them a call…

Undergrad.

Zoidberg93

First and foremost - please spell “Elliott” with 2 T’s in your petition. I would be succinct and keep it a paragraph or 2. They said to send an e-mail so I don’t hink they’re expecting a 500 word essay, but no personal knowledge on this one.

Include things that Elliott brings to the IA major that PoliSci will not in CCAS. You can always double major in IA/PoliSci, but is redundant although some grad schools like to see the poliSci major - especially if you’re going academic and Ph.D in poliSci - not many Ph.D. programs in IA.

Best of luck.

The email was a success! I was accepted to Elliott! And thanks CJ, I actually spelled “Elliott” correctly haha

For future reference, I kept it to one, solid paragraph and I got my response from the committee after 2 days.

Congrats Zoidberg! My “S” loves the ESIA.

CJ

zoidberg, what email did you send your petition to?!

i tried doing the EXACT same thing (transferring from Columbian to Elliott), but I received a reply saying that I had to fill-out an internal transfer request when I got to school in the fall…

So does that mean you’re coming to GW? ;)

I guess we’ll find out if zoidberg is attending GW - it’s May 1st - decision time!

Good luck!

They told me that an appeals committee meets once a week to consider transfer requests.
Also, they moved the enrollment deadline to tomorrow since today is a Sunday, so nothings official yet ;)

The suspense is killing me.

I can appreciate good sarcasm

Officially part of GW Class of 2015

happy to hear. remember to stay involved, keep busy, and never let an opportunity go to waste!

also have fun =P

Good decision! You’ll love Elliott. Remember to try and attend 1 special Elliott function/week. These are open to undergrads and usually require you to RSVP. You’ll hear amazing speakers and experts from all over the world. Your ESIA newsletter will keep you apprised.

This is only 1 example of the benfits of the ESIA’s and GW/DC.

Good luck on housing - no rhyme or reason to it!

CJ

ahhh- sigh of relief.

I’m kidding. Congratulations on making the correct decision.

Thanks everybody. Kinda want to live in Potomac but I heard it was reserved for ED applicants, bah humbug

I applied to transfer to GW as a Finance major, but am thinking about doing International Affairs instead, should I wait to hear back from GW admissions on the business school or should I email them to ask them to consider my application for Elliott instead? Thanks.
