Transfer to Emory

Hi, I have a bad HS record. 3.5 unweighted GPA (same weighted, private school, no honors or AP) and an 1850 SAT (590 M, 660 V, 600 W) 29 ACT
I'm at a community college, and I hope to get a 4.0 both semesters (I'm doing well now, I have a 4.0 in all classes so far) I'm taking an ok course load: Chem, bio, Government, English, and Art History first semester.
Chem II, Bio II, Sociology, English II, Calculus I second semester. And then Calculus II over the summer (couldn't get it first semester).

So...what are my chances of transfering to Emory as a Biology major? Also, what about UNC - Chapel Hill, Case Western, LeHigh, and Vanderbilt also, though I think Emory is my top choice as of now.

Thanks so much in advance!

a 3.5 uw is not a bad hs gpa..........were did you get that dillusion?

Well for freshman apps it was way bad. Is it not bad for transferring?

So anyone...?

Worth a shot. If you can maintain a high GPA, you'll be fairly competitive. Note, your SAT is a little low, but don't let that stop you.

Good luck with your endeavors.

What about at the other schools..? I left some out:
UVA
UNC
Case Western
LeHigh
Vanderbilt
Emory

UNC and UVA are tough out of state from what I can tell

Yea, I got rejected form both for freshman admission. >_<

Eh..ok, so anyone have an opinion on this?

Without a GPA, it's hard to say what your chances are. If you do earn a high GPA, then I think you're wasting neither money nor effort by applying to Emory. However, I wouldn't be shocked if you were rejected to Emory even with a high GPA from your community college.

Uhh...lol. Don't even know how to take that. I'm aiming for a 4.0, I think I will be able to get a 4.0. My classes (listed in OP) are only ones that meet general education requirements, so I am not taking any PE or "out there" classes to fluff GPA.

Bumpity bump bump. ^__^

Well..remember me?

Lehigh, Vanderbilit, and Emory are all solid choices. I'm actually trying to get into Emory myself from a top university(University of Maryland, #3 Research University in the Nation). I was considering Vanderbilt as well, but I heard that Business is not a good choice for Vandy. But, Vanderbilt is amazing for Biology major.

I think if you maintain that 4.0 and get involved on campus, you have a really solid shot. Add Cornell and John Hopkins to that list as well.

Emory University does take the college you attend into account, but if you went to a CC versus a University they would expect exactly 3.5 and higher....

Your high school gpa and test scores dont play that much into there decision making...your college gpa and courses matter most!!!

To be a competitive candidate you need a 3.5 or higher in college work attempted. As I did ask the advisor about CC's they would expect a "4.0" from the student.
