Transfer to GA Tech from NYU or Drexel

Hello all,

I am a current high school senior trying to major in mechanical (automotive?) engineering. I applied to GA Tech EA but got rejected. The only two schools I got into and am considering are Tandon at NYU and Drexel, which one of those would be better to go to if I am trying to transfer into GA Tech next year? I heard Tandon credits are kind of useless, and financially it is a reach for me, but Drexel has the quarter system which I don’t think really works either. Generally, if I was trying to

Sorry accidentally posted before I finished. I was trying to say if I was trying to transfer easily, which school would be better? Thanks!

What is your home state?

What is your budget?

What are your high school stats (unweighted GPA) and test scores?

Where else where you accepted?

I studied under the quarter system in graduate school. I liked it a lot. However, you have to make an effort to never fall behind. The end of the quarter comes up quickly and you need to be ready to deal with it.

I have the quarter system as well at my high school. I don’t mind it but I heard it makes it so you can’t transfer the credits from Drexel to a semester-based university.

I’m from TN. Budget is pretty flexible but I’d rather not dump money into NYU if I don’t have to (they barely gave any aid).

GPA: 3.5 UW. School doesnt weight
SAT: 1510

I was also accepted at Tulane and TN Tech. Both are nice but not really what I’m looking for in an engineering school (neither had good co-ops or a good reputation).

@neutralmouse01 if you want honest answer do not count on transfer to GaTech unless you will fall into one of their paths.
Google transfer paths at GaTech website. If you fall into one of the paths - it does not matter, pick one that will transfer more credits to Gatech and will get you better GPA. If you do not fall in one of the paths - your chances are very slim ( due to volume of students who will apply through paths). So choose school where you will be happy. Sorry.

I think that my inclination would be to attend whichever school you would be most willing to spend 4 years at and graduate from.

Another option: why not consider community college?

I would definitely pick NYU over Drexel, and you may find you really like it. I have a few friends there, and they are very happy. Plus, if you dont like it and want to transfer to GT, you can always cite the lack of a cohesive campus and other things that you might find at GT but not NYU. Drexel would not be on my list if I got NYU

You could always look at the list of schools still offering admission. There’s a lot this year and could grow. Even if not on the list you could call admissions and ask. I was thinking Clemson. Not on the list but good for engineering. Might be worth a shot.

UT-Knoxville still has openings. UTexas-Arlington still has openings. I think they’re known for automotive engineering. Michigan State and UK too. As long at they’re ABET accredited you should be good.

NYU is a city school. Not much of a campus. You could walk past it and not really notice. Not sure $300k for an undergrad degree is a wise move right now either but it is a good school.

Drexel seems like a mixed bag. Love it or hate it. I liked what I saw when S20 visited. Campus has improved. Really liked the co-op program and the honors kids seemed pretty sharp.
