Transfer to George Washington University

Hi folks.

I am currently a sophomore (after this semester, I will have 59 credit hours) at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Ever since I initially decided to study law in early high school, George Washington has been my dream college. I had the opportunity to tour the campus two years ago and was completely enthralled. But my average high school achievements were too low to meet GW's entrance requirements (I had a great GPA, but my ACT scores left much to be desired). Since then, I've been working hard towards potentially transferring, and now I am finally in a position to try to apply for GW's Human Services program.

I have already submitted my transcript, though I may re-submit it after this semester due to potentially higher grades. But my current stats are as follows.

GPA: 3.41 (hoping to have 3.7 or higher by end of this semester; I'm retaking one class to replace a terrible earlier grade).
Academics: Almost all gen-eds satisfied; no upper-division courses taken yet (I have been trying to explore potential minors/secondary majors).
ECs: Senator for Student Government Association, member of Multicultural Affairs Committee, representative of Freshman Council, representative/former treasurer for the university Residence Hall Association, volunteer at local children's hospital.
Other: Dual enrollment in college during high school, Honor Roll in freshman year, clean disciplinary record, multiple strong faculty recommendations, fairly substantial essay.

While I've never considered myself a poor student, I've never been much above average. Aside from placement in the Honor Roll during my first year last year, I've never received any honors or other such merits. My extracurricular record isn't terribly outstanding, either. I wasn't involved outside of class at all during high school and only just started last year in college. But as they say, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I think it is time to at least give it a shot. =)

Also, how generous is GW with scholarships and financial aid? My family makes enough income to not qualify for the highest aid, but we still are by no means the wealthiest around.

Any thoughts or observations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! =)

I think your chances are not that great.

The only place I see you may be lacking is your GPA. You are extremely interested, and that will come across in your essay. Also, just from reading your post, I can tell your writing style is clear, concise, and representative of your goals and values. Good Luck if you ended up applying!
