Hi!
I'm a freshman planning on majoring in economics, but the econs department in my college is not very good. I do not feel motivated to study. I heard Grinnell treats first year the same as transfer, so I want to give it a try (I'm an international). Does anyone here have any experience about Grinnell admission, especially for transfer (scores, essays, outside activities)? Maybe I will try to transfer after one year here. I would really appreciate your advice. Thank u.

I’m not sure exactly what you mean by this. Admission rate is definitely not the same for fr (ca. 50%) and transfer (ca. 14%) applicants (not sure how Intl. applicants break out):

Again, I’m not sure what you are trying to say. I hope it’s that you don’t feel motivated to study more than enough to get an A in your classes, not that you don’t feel motivated to get good grades because your econ department is poor. Because if you want to have any chance transferring anywhere after fr year, you will want to have the best grades possible this semester as that is all colleges will see (and perhaps a progress report) when making their decisions.

Oh I mean the aid for freshmen is the same for transfer at Grinnell. That’s what I care. And I still try to get As in every class so that I have a good record for my transfer.
