I'm thinking of transferring to Cornell for fall 2012. i'm not sure if i should apply to the school of human ecology, which seems to have very stringent required courses, or if i should apply to arts and sciences. does anyone know which would give a first-year transfer a better chance? please let me know, thanks!

It is much easier to transfer into HumEc than Arts & Sciences.

Arts and science is much more selective than Human Ecology.
