I'm an incoming freshman, and UC San Diego and carleton college are my top two. I recently visited the former and absolutely love the campus and environment /weather. While I wasn't too crazy about spending four years in Minnesota. I applied as a physics major to both schools, yet Im leaning more toward a path of engineering/sustainability. Carleton has a 3-2 with Columbia in engineering, yet from what I hear its rarely pursued. Ucsd has jacobs, but I haven't a clue as to whether it would be hard to change my major from physics to engineering, having to change schools and all. I'm not sure how the job prospects are for physics majors from carleton vs Ucsd. Ucsd is close to home, yet the quality of education gives carleton an edge. What would be the best pathway?Transfer to Jacob's school of engineering or undergraduate physics at carleton college?

Which kind of engineering are you interested in? Some of them are impacted at UCSD:

For 3+2 programs, you have to consider what the admission requirements for the “2” school are, the uncertainty of financial aid at the “2” school, the extra year of costs, and whether you want to transfer away after 3 years at the “3” school.
