Hello, I am a cc transfer student looking to apply to Indiana University Bloomginton--Kelley. I have looked at the requirements and pretty much completed them at my community college. Will I still have to spend a semester at IU before getting into Kelley?? I am so confused. Please help me out. Thanks

I assume you will be starting at IU in Fall 2012 or later. The admissions requirements are much tougher beginning in Fall 2012 than they ever have been. You can find them here:

[Transfer Students: Admissions: Undergraduate Program: Kelley School of Business: Indiana University Bloomington](<a href=“Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley”>Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley)

It is not possible that you have fulfilled the minimum for admission to Kelley if you have not taken classes at IUB yet. Transfer students must take at least 12 credits at IU Bloomington before applying to Kelley if they start in Fall 2012 or later.

You can use the credit transfer service to see how your cc classes transfer to IU.

[Credit Transfer Service: Admissions: Indiana University](http://cts.admissions.indiana.edu/)

No, I have not taken classes at IU. I currently live in Chicago, IL. I am applying for Fall 2012. I do not understand; I have completed finanical and mangerial accounting, Econ 201 and 202, couple math classes, and the english requirements. What else do I need to take? I have done all the classes they need to be taken at IU before I can get into Kelley. I do not need to repeat them twice.

Did you look at the requirements for transfer students? There is probably no way that you could have completed all the requirements for transfer students in Chicago without having some Icore prerequisite classes that you have not taken yet. You have to take a minimum of four classes at IUB to get in. Here are some of the requirements for transfer students.

* Complete one course on the IU Bloomington campus from each of the following areas:
o Business Analysis (BUS-A 201, BUS-A 202, BUS-L 201, ECON-E 201, ECON-E 202, BUS-K 201, or BUS-X 201)
o Mathematics (MATH-M 118*, MATH-M 119* or ECON-E 370*)
o Communication (BUS-X 104, BUS-X 204 or ENG-W 131*)
- Complete one additional course on the IU Bloomington campus in any of the areas above, for a total of four Kelley admissions courses.

I would be very surprised if you have receive credit for any of the following classes, as credit is generally not granted by IU for them:

Econ E370
Bus X204
Bus K201 & Bus X201

Also, You have taken “some math classes,” but have you taken the equivalent of M118 Finite Math? You would not be retaking any classes if you take Econ E370, Bus X204, Bus K201 (or X201), and finite math in Fall 2012. You may have credit for finite math, but it is unlikely that you have credit for the others listed. In that case, you might have to repeat one class, two at the most. If your schooling is all in Illinois colleges, it is extremely unlikely that you have credit for K201, E370, and X201. Some Illinois schools you can get credit for X204.

Remember, you need to take four classes at IU Bloomington in order to apply.

Ok, I have taken two maths courses which are Finite Math and Calculus For Bus &Soc Sci. I have tried looking at the transfer credit courses at IU for my school and I could not found anything. I have called the Kelley admission, but they are closed til next year. Now, what exactly is Econ 370, Bus X204, K201, and X201?

You are correct about not having to retake those classes for which IU will accept credit from another institution. Once you have made sure which classes will transfer, you will need to take 12 additional credit hours at IU-Bloomington.

If all of your current credits transfer, that’s great. But, if they don’t, you’ll need to retake at IU. Then fill in any remaining hours with easy gen eds to hit the 12 hour requirement.

***oops. should have refreshed, before responding. Bthomp has given you some great advice.

12 additional credit hours of what? I have completed all of my general education requirements. There is not anything else for me to take.

I am having second thoughts of Kelley. What is the point of getting accepted in IU Bloomington and then required me to take some classes which I have already taken before I can get into Kelley. I think I am not going to apply.

Post #4 lists at least 4 classes that aren’t gen eds that you will need to take. (Econ 370, Bus X204, K201, and X201)

Hopefully, your previous credits will be accepted by IU, but if not, looking at other options would probably be a good idea.

I do not think I am going to apply to IU Bloomginton-Kelley anymore. I am not taking extra classes at IU before I can get into Kelley which would be a waste of my time and money.

The criteria appear to be easy through 2012 Spring. Kelley closed the loophole and the new rule is pretty tough. It is prudent to look for opportunities elsewhere.

I think they made it tougher for transfer students because there are so many more direct admits each year, and that reduces the number that can make it regular admission or transfer admission. They have been expanding class size but not at a rate that would still leave room for a lot of non-direct admits. That loophole was a good one, since it required only one semester of twelve credits of solid B’s if you transferred in with at least 14 credits.

It think the pre-req is easier , but your right its close the loophole for transfer
that being said , most good businesss school have similar requirement so i do not know where u could transfer?

and if u taken them before and it transfer you dont need to retake them

There probably aren’t many top twenty business schools that you could transfer directly into the business program with cc credit alone.
