I am going to a community college this year and if I have 35 hours with a GPA of 3.5 can I get into McCombs Business School at UT Austin? if not can I get into Liberal Arts and transfer internally to McCombs? and also if I get into Liberal Arts what classes would I need to take at UT if I have completed all of my Business Indicator classes at the community college that McCombs require?

Not likely with a 3.5. Maybe a 3.7.

Yes you would probably get in to Liberal arts and you would have to finish 30 hours in residence to transfer to McCombs, but it would be much easier.

I'd attend one of the internal transfer info sessions once you get to UT to figure out what courses you need.

As an external transfer, your odds are not good. The average gpa for the most recent year was a 3.82 and only 21% were admitted. You can read more about stats at this link.

Your 3.5 will probably get you into Liberal Arts, but you'd need 24 hours in residence before you could apply. They only take applications for the fall anyway. The acceptance rate is significantly higher, with 62% getting in in the most recent year, with the average gpa of 3.8 and a minimum of 3.6. Only grades for classes taken at UT would count for this, so you have a clean shot at a 4.0 again. You can read more about the process and the statistics at this link.

you cant get in with 3.5... but you can internally transfer with 3.7 GPA which will be difficult since you have 3.5 at a community college (you might not even get into liberal arts with 3.5)

I want to comment on ccviabank's comment. When you transfer internally, your GPA starts over when you started at UT. Only courses taken at UT will be considered and you must have 24 hours to apply.

Another comment on that post -- I know people who did get into Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences with less than a 3.5 (as low as 3.3) so it is possible.

*** are you talking about...
I never said community college GPA will count. Making 3.5 at a community college is pretty sad (if anyone is attending ACC, its a school of retards), so Im implying its going to be hard to make 3.7 at UT Austin. If you read, I said "you might not even get into liberal arts with 3.5," "MIGHT." I know plenty who got rejceted with 3.5. And also the average is around 3.5-3.6 for transfer.

READ PLEASE

You implied it with the statement "you can internally transfer with 3.7 GPA which will be difficult since you have 3.5 at a community college" and I wanted to clarify it for the OP. Everyone gets a fresh start when they start and your post didn't make that clear.

ACC, or any community college, is not a "school of retards." Its mission is different that a four year school and shouldn't be judged as one. Some people are there who didn't make the most of high school but who do make the most of their second chance. Some are pursuing programs which are not offered at four year schools. Some are rather unmotivated and are taking classes only because they don't know what else to do with their lives yet. None of these makes someone a "retard."

You did say might. I was letting the OP knew people with lower GPAs who were accepted. I was trying to be encouraging.

im not going to disagree with you about "community college" but my experience from ACC students, very retarded. (MY EXPERIENCE)

i'm not going to disagree with you about SOME ACC students, but my experience with most people who talk in sweeping generalities, very retarded (my experience).

i dont go to ACC

Hi I wanted to know what my chances were at transferrring into Mccombs school of business. I’m a finance major and have a 3.75 gpa in my first semester at the Texas Tech but I only took 12 hours(I had to drop a class because I had a C-). I’m in 5 school organizations holding some leadership roles in some and have over 100 hours of community service. I’m taking 19 hours next semester to make up for the 12 hours I took this semester. I have a 27 ACT and 3.5 gpa in high school.
