Transfer to McIntire School of Commerce at UVA?

Hey everyone,

I was looking at the average GPA for accepted applicants to UVA's McIntire School of Commerce and it says the average GPA for transfers is 3.86. I was wondering if anyone knows of any successful or is a successful transfer student at UVA McIntire who got in wiht less than that 3.86 score. How hard is it to get into UVA as a transfer student, if you apply for McIntire and dont get in, do they offer you admission as undecided?

Anyone?????

I was looking at McIntire as well. The problem for me was the school requires 4 semesters of a college foreign language. The other issue I had transferring there was they really keep admissions within the state (meaning you're MUCH more likely to be admitted if you're from Virginia).

I recall seeing some statistics, which go back a few years, that show the number of OOS transfer students accepted to McIntire every year or so is at right about a dozen. Maybe a baker’s dozen.

Hey guys,

McIntire School of Commerce is very competitive. You must prove your an all around student. Even though students attend UVA still 75% of them get in and obviously the others don’t. If you are trying to transfer in, it is not impossible however you need just about as close to a 4.0GPA as possible. Now that UVA is the #1 Public school in the nation and #1 in Business (amongst public and private) it may be more difficult. Just try your best and apply. If it doesn’t work out, then you always have the option of graduating with a different major like Economics and then enrolling in the 1 year MA in Commerce program. Also don’t forget UVA offers many great programs and opportunities. I myself am interested in Economic as well as Finance (but they are in two different schools). So UVA has an option for a Economics Major with a concentration in Finance (Perfect!). I hope this helps somewhat. Keep your options open and do the best you can. Good luck and let me know if I can help.

So u mean i still can get in the school but the chance of getting into mcintire is extremely low?

Well, I got in this year with 4.0 and 95 credits from a community college in VA. Some extracurricular activities; three, I assume, great recommendation; independent student; working nearly full time, all of the prerequisites satisfied. It is not impossible just be determined and…to stay realistic keep your options open for other schools…which can help to keep the anxiety levels a bit lower ;)
