I have been admitted to Arts and Letters for the class of 2014, but I am wondering if, after completing the first year of studies, it is possible to transfer to the Mendoza School of Business. I applied to Arts and Letters because I didn't know what I wanted to study during the application process. Right now, I kind of see myself going into business. Is it possible/difficult to transfer into Mendoza after the first year of studies?

You are not in Arts and Letters yet…the way they work it is they put all the freshmen in FYS, and you enter a particular college in your sophomore year. While you will take classes preparing you for your intended major, you do not choose a college until late spring of freshman year, so you will not have a problem getting into Mendoza. Just talk to your advisor before this semester starts to make sure you are taking the right classes (Microecon, Business Calc, etc.) to prepare you for Mendoza.

thanks thats great to know. Also, do you recommend taking language first semester? And the packet i just received makes it seem like there are a lot of different chances to study abroad. Do most students go abroad junior year?

a lot do - most in spring so they don’t miss football (sounds funny but you will soon see why)…also it should be noted that you can always switch into business (even after sophomore year - though it may take an extra year) … transfer students into the university cannot major in business however
