Transfer to MIT or Stanford. How hard is it ?

Hey ,

I'm a student getting into Purdue university in about 6 months time. I was wondering what it would really take to get a transfer to a really reputed uni like MIT or Stanford once im in Purdue. Is it a super-high GPA ? Or is just too far-fetched ? Please drop a line , thanks.

MIT - near impossible. I have a 4.00 and #1 rank in math and sci college classes and it is still not looking good. 6 people got in last year. Stanford is stingy as well but not as much - acceptance rate ~5%. Pick some more schools to ensure transfer.

Ur serious? Damn , that doesnt look too good for me then. How about the idea of doing a post-grad there. From what i heard , itz pretty hard unless u've done ur undergrad from MIT itself. Could you expound on the scholarship opportunities for Graduateschool cuz shelling out $40,000 is not easy thing.
Btw , which university do you goto martinibleux ?

That is not the case. Plenty of students who did not attend MIT undergrad attend MIT for postgrad; to be sure, it is even more difficult for MIT undergrads to be admitted into MIT postgrad since such programs require the best grades, and very few students at MIT actually attain them.

Regarding financial aid, most Ph.D programs provide a stipend, since they understand that as a professor it will be difficult to pay off any loans accrued during the course of one's study.

Additionally, I am, in writing this post, already refuting janel89's sophomoric comment:

Do you ever, nspeds, make a post where you are not simply quoting someone else and contradicting them (and often with no support appended to your objection)?

Try to be original for once.

A google search yields no results.

You've misused the word 'sophomoric,' dearest nspeds. For perhaps had it been used to describe any of the commentary or personal opinions that you leave on this board, it would have found a fitting home.

I was also trying to defend someone whom you had belittled with an unsubstantiated claim.

Not really:

Eh, I have read better.

In addition, I should remind you of my post made against your trivial cavils on an earlier occasion:

I never asked for derision. If you wish to vituperate, send it to my private message box, though I doubt your insults will be anymore singular than the millions of others I receive.

Dearest nspeds,

I expect you to have understood that I knew the meaning of the word quite well, but was merely pointing out that it was misused in that I my commentary could not justifiably be labelled as such. Yours, however -- we have a case.

"...assuming adjectives could walk."

Strive for imagination. It is called speaking figuratively.

"I never asked for derision. If you wish to vituperate, send it to my private message box, though I doubt your insults will be anymore singular than the millions of others I receive."

Oh right! Oh wait, no -- you blocked me.

Alrightey , could we please get back to the real topic of the post? Janel89 and nspeds , if you could plz take ur argument somehwere else , it would be thoroughly appreciated.

So far , a transfer doesnot seem too likely as martinibleux adequately.
What about Post Graduate studies ? What does it really take to get to MITz grad-school ? Plain ol GPA or something else thats exceptional ?

adequately stated earlier*
