transfer to MIT/Stanford

actually i'm a student from india presently a freshmen at IIT (indian institute of technology) in a bachelor's of technology program(class of 2014)
{the reason i want to transfer is dat IIT is the best technical school in india but i dnt feel satisfied here the prof. here don't teach topics with a feel..they don't inspire to innovate....thus MIT seems a better option now

i am considering to apply to MIT as a transfer student next yr. in fall i have a GPA of 9.4(on a scale of 10)

for getting into IIT i have cleared india's toughest entrance exam given by half a million students and got a rank of 1400(i.e. like 0.3%) (JEE)
4.in high school i have cleared national level standard exams in physics and maths, declared an national scholar by govt. of india(and hence recipent of a scholarship),presented paper on water purification techniques at a national conference and got a rating of A1.....other than this i have many state and city level awards in science, english, debating drama etc
5.i can get excellent recommendations from my school teachers
6.i have a SAT score of (2300) and SAT IIs (in maths and physics 750 and 740)
plz help wid my candidature and give ur reveiws so that i can improve till nxt yr. fall

MIT-stanford-caltech know very well about IIT. Many-many professors there (and even some HODs) are IIT graduates.
Your GPA as an IIT grad is good.
You’re from IIT dude, and you have gr8 ECs and national level awards. IMO, you have gr8 chances.
All indians have good recommendations
Many IIT applicants apply to MIT and stanford each year as transfer students. What would separate you from them:

 1. You have very good SAT scores. Many of the IIT applicants don’t even get 1800 or 1900 (since many of them come from hindi medium schools)
 2. Your GPA. People think that just because they’re from IIT means MIT will take 'em. This is not the case. You have good a GPA and thus you stand out.
 3. ECs and awards. IItians are known to have been total geeks during high school years (12hrs per day, KOTA, no activity participation), but you have good ECs and awards as well…

BTW, MIT doesn’t care abt your ECs if you’re a genius …

Your IIT GPA is very good! So is your IITJEE rank. I believe you should go ahead and apply, but the deadline is next week, so hurry up!
Second ivycollege, if you’re a ‘genius’ then MIT doesn’t really care about ECs.

However, I didn’t get one thing. How come your SAT 2s are so low? They’re going to make you crash if you don’t improve them come Jan. It’s pretty unbelievable. You should have gotten 800s in both by just waking up and walking down to the test center one fine saturday with your IIT prep/rank.

You probably have the best chance of anyone I have seen. Just work on your essays.

Keep in mind though, you need recommendations from your professors at IIT.

And don’t be disheartened if you don’t get in. You will be at MIT at some point in life ,if not soon. Good luck.

Arrey haan, as p92 said, You would need those reccs from IIT profs. If this part’s done, consider urself in at MIt. Very important …

And yeah, you would have probably left/soved wrong some 15 questions or so to get <800 in Phy Mat2.

@OP:Which branch and what’s your major?

Hold on. Are you not applying this year?

You might be able to transfer into community colleges like MIT and Cornell but Stanford’s a whole different beast. Check out the following thread for information on it.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/stanford-university/523954-how-hard-transfer-stanford.html</a></p>

EDIT: I was kidding about the “community colleges” thing. I just realized you guys might have killed me for saying that lol.

Just apply,
Youuuuuuuuu neverrrrrrrrr knowwwwwwwww !!

Transfer deadlines are generally in March I think, not January.

Yeah they’re in March and good luck OP you stand a VERY good chance if they don’t admit you then its THEIR loss :)

hey i’m sorry for late reply was in my grandparents village for some time:-
a few things i wanted to tell
1.thanx for the reveiws i guess i shud apply then actually the thought of going to MIT etc. came to after IITD dissappointed me so i have little inf. abt the process and applying deadlines etc.
2.can u tell me abt scholarships and finance as i’ll definitely need it.
3.i’m sorry for faking it but i have to give the SATs haven’t given them yet just faked the marks to have reveiws coz i expect to get atleast these much marks.
thanx for all d interest cn u just tell me abt financial aid and applying deadlines and SAT
and yeah considering the fact that out of hundreds only single digit ppl get thru as transfer do i still stand a chance??
thankx a lot for all d help…i’m obliged

and yeah in case if it has any value i dnt know personally i got:
in class XII rank 2 in science stream…91.1%
and in XI >93%(i dnt remember xactly) and class rank 1

High school ranks and % matter a lot.

You’ll easily get 800 in Phy and Mat2. Don’t be so sure abt the SAT reasoning. A single mistake can sometimes cost you 30 - 40 marks.

<quote>High school ranks and % matter a lot.</quote>
then i guess it shud be a benefit for me :)

Did you get MIT?
