I'm thinking of transferring to Northeatern next year for a few reasons (mostly financial issues with my current school, and to be closer to home). My high school GPA was roughly 3.2. My college GPA is 3.82 after a year (spring/fall). SAT score is 2210 (750 V, 750 W, 710 M).

I mean, Looking at the stats it seems I'll get in, but the crux is that I need some merit-based aid in order to attend. My family's financial situation isn't great, we may get some need-based aid but not much. Does anyone know how generous Northeastern is with merit-based aid, taking into account my stats? Are there are any scholarships I can apply for?

Northeastern is pretty bad for financial aid - I applied as a first-year with an EFC of 0, received a $15,000/year merit scholarship outside of regular financial aid, and still couldn’t afford to go without taking out about $11,000 in loans (in addition to, not including, the loans that were part of my financial aid package). I’d look somewhere else if you’re hoping to save money.

I applied out of HS with about a 90/100 (3.5) average, not many extracurrics, and much lower SAT score (~2000), and got the “Deans Scholarship” of $14K/year (maybe their biggest scholarship outside of half tuition and full tuition?). Didn’t end up going cuz it was still $36K/year after aid, but I think you have a good shot at scoring a good amount of aid.

i transferred last semester and yeah they are pretty bad with financial aid. I had efc=0 and they only gave me 20,000 for the whole year (keep in mind that the school cost 52300 w/housing). Luckily i had a big scholarship come in and took out a loan to pay for this year.

If you have money to afford neu than by all means go there but it is really expensive for those who do not have money outside of the financial aid given. You will definitely get in but Neu does that whole holistic approach so who knows

NEU will recalculate your G.P.A. so don’t worry.
They take your unweighed G.P.A. add 5 points to each grade for AP courses, 10 for I.B. HL courses and 5 for I.B. SL courses. Then they recalculate it. So your G.P.A. is sure to go up. ^_^
