Hey guys, I just wanted your opinion. My goal is to study compsci CAS at NYU. I currently am a freshmen Carnegie Mellon. Got in to Carnegie for a different program, but took one cs class and I love it. It's all i think about now. Can't pursue it here since the program is too selective.

Originally got into NYU as a presidential scholar (top 5% of admit class to CAS), but I had to turn it down due to a financial aid complication that would be fixed with reapplication.

3.2 GPA first semester (2 A's, 2 B's, 1 C) (C was in my old uniteresting major)
I'm not sending a mid-semester report for my second semester grades (it wouldn't help)

In 3 clubs, can write down an officer position for debate
Part of a robot design team as a programmer
worked over winter break as a website consultant

Why don’t you just declare a dual degree cs at cmu, I heard you can just declare in your second year as long as you’ve taken the required classes?

Because it is ave talked to several cs majors, it’s impossible to do that unless you are a god at cs. Inot a guarantee. I wouldn’t be able to apply for that until the end of my sophomore year and I would need a 3.7 average for the required classes.

I also don’t want to do an additional major because I’m forced to study a primary major which I’m not interested in

I think you’re fine. My daughter transferred to NYU after being previously accepted and during her interview she was told that her previous acceptance would be taken into account. It wasn’t CAS but after one year they still look at all the factors they looked at for freshmen, and you are handling college work at a rigorous institution. Be prepared for a long wait–late May last year was when transfers were informed, and a serious reduction in your merit aid relative to last time.

If I were you, I wouldn’t be such a defeatist. If you like CMU, go after the CS thing. Don’t give up before you try. You can always transfer later.
