Transfer to NYU

I am currently a sophomore at the University of Connecticut., majoring in Nutrition/Dietetics. This was originally my first choice school, I chose this school over Boston University (mostly over financial reasons and closer to home) and have regretted my decision ever since. I really feel that I have made a mistake and the only way to make up for it is to transfer to another school. My top school to transfer to is NYU Steinhardt, but I will also apply to BU, and Cornell. I did really well in high school with tons of ec's and I ended my first year at UConn with a 3.8 gpa.
I really don't think I can wait a whole year before transferring, my biggest decision right now is do I apply to transfer for the spring semester or the fall semester. Are there any disadvantages to transferring in the spring semester over the fall semester especially to these schools? Also, my major isn't in that much of a demand so there wouldn't be as much competition, would having a major that not a lot of people have also help my chances of getting into NYU?

Well, I am also applying for Spring 2008 and, so far as I’ve heard, there is no real advantage to either semester in the application process. The other questions I am not so sure about, you may want to try the NYU Boards at the site (they are located in the “contact us” part of the Admissions page).
