Transfer to Ohio State Engineering

Hi everyone! I currently go to University of Cincinnati. I am trying to transfer to OSU, it has always been my first choice. I was denied and didn’t want to go to a satellite campus. I was honestly pretty mad about not getting in because in high school I had a 29 ACT, 3.7 gpa, and a ton of extracurriculars. I have been at UC for 1 semester and I am trying to apply for the spring semester at OSU. I am just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this, good idea/ bad idea? Chances of me getting in? Just anything! This semester it looks like I’m going to have a 3.8 gpa. In addition, since I am currently in electrical engineering, I wanted to know how hard the engineering program is at OSU? I am torn with the decision to transfer since I am already in engineering at UC, while if I transfer to OSU, I will have to apply to the program after 2 semesters. I am trying to do this early because the earlier I transfer, the more classes will transfer over. Just let me know your thoughts!! Thank you!

If you were somehow rejected from OSU in high school, it is highly doubtful you’ll get accepted with only 1 semester under your belt. Truth be told, if you were denied, there was SOME kind of red flag in your application. Have you thought about what that might be?

@TransferStalker there is no red flag I can think of, I was a pretty decent student and have never gotten in trouble. I was pretty devastated when I didn’t get in and I even called OSU asking for an explanation but they didn’t tell me anything. I think it might have been that the engineering school was really competitive that year.

Would you still consider a satellite campus? Electrical Engineering is one of the engineering programs at Marion that has the most classes available. At OSU you usually need to wait until spring of sophomore year to apply to the specific program because of the classes you have to have completed. My S is interested in EE and will be ready to apply to EE this spring from Marion. My D was able to land a spot in Biomedical engineering from Marion as well (but that was before they also required an intro BME class which is currently only on main, now.) The engineering college continues to be competitive and I wonder with students moving down from Marion every semester who know the engineering professors because they commute up here to teach the classes, if there are actually any spots to transfer into at main - especially second semester of freshman year when few freshman take a leave for co-op.

Also, I think UC has a great co-op program. Maybe instead of trying to transfer right away, you should stay long enough to get into a co-op. You’ll probably find a lot of the other co-ops/interns where you get hired will also be from Ohio State. That may help you get over buyers remorse thinking that your other choice would have been better or led to different opportunities. They are both ABET programs so cover the same material and have same employers hiring their grads. If you chose UC I’m guessing it was because you wanted to be on a bigger campus, so enjoy it.
