I am a current freshman at University of South Carolina and I am thinking about transferring to Ole Miss. I am from Pennsylvania, but i am very conservative. At USC "Yankees" are somewhat looked down upon, especially in frats. I wanted to know what Ole Miss is like. Is it a party school or bar school? Are there parties easy to find? Could I get into the honors college or scholarships? Are northerners looked down on? etc.. anything about Ole Miss would be great to know!

You will love Oxford compared to that rat hole Columbia. My freshman son is from Columbus OH and he loves it. He is a Beta pledge. There are over 50% out of state students now and the campus is very welcoming. Like any school you can party but there is a lot of free tutoring and help available. Over 85% of the freshman return for their sophomore year. Look in the freshman guide book for scholarship/financial aid packages.

Ole Miss is right of center.
@jackh129 I think Ole Miss can have something for you if you’re willing to seek it out. There are fraternities that you could get into. There’s the bar and party scenes that you can get into if that’s what you are looking for. As stated earlier, Ole Miss has many non-resident students from California to New York. So, you won’t be the only “northerner”. Honors could be an option based on your grades, but scholarships will be very tough to come by since you’re not coming from a community college.
