So I am upper senior at a cuny school. I am looking to transfer to Pace for the hospitality and tourism program. I have exhausted all my financial aid. I am wondering will Pace give me financial aid or other financial assistance? I still need to apply fafsa so that can determine by that .
What do you mean…you have exhausted all your financial aid?
I think you are supposed to get 8 semesters of pell and 10 semester of tap. I got financial aid for all those semesters so if I transfer from cuny to Pace will I get more financial aid?
If you are a senior, you need to graduate and get on with your life, not transfer. Pace won’t allow you to get a degree after only one semester. Your financial aid is exhausted because it’s time to finish and graduate.
I decided I wanted to change my major so thats why I want to transfer. I think lots of credits will transfer
It’s very unlikely that Pace will give you enough aid to attend. You won’t get additional Pell or other federally funded aid…or NY state aid if you had that. And Pace probably won’t give you a dime of their own money because transfer students are not the ones they give most aid to. And anyway…Pace doesn’t meet full need for all accepted students .
Pace is very expensive, and you would need to spend at least two years there to get a degree…and that’s assuming they accept all your transfer courses.
I agree with @blossom. It’s time to graduate from undergrad school with whatever major you have enough courses in to get you there…where you are attending college now.
I really dislike my current major tbh
My response…just deal with it. It’s more important to graduate as soon as possible…with as little additional cost as possible.
And understand…many folks have jobs and careers that have nothing to do with their undergrad major.
Time to move on from undergrad school.
ok thanks
You have two things that are working against you. The first is there is a maximum amount of Pell and Tap money you can receive in your lifetime. The second is every school caps the number of credits you can transfer in (no school wants to grant you a degree when you only take 4 classes there). You need to figure out if the amount of Pell and Tap still available to you will last long enough for you to take the number of credits you need to get a degree from Pace.
You need to speak to someone in the Registrar’s office to determine how many credits you will need to earn from them in order to graduate. Then you need to speak to the financial aid office to see if you have enough “lifetime funds” available to cover the amount of time it will take you to get the remaining credits.
@helpingmom40 the OP wrote this…it doesn’t sound like he has TAP or Pell money left.
“ I think you are supposed to get 8 semesters of pell and 10 semester of tap. I got financial aid for all those semesters so if I transfer from cuny to Pace will I get more financial aid?”
The max Pell Grant will be a drop in the bucket at Pace.
Tuition alone is over $46,000 a year.
Most college require students attend for at least two years before they will grant a degree. You need to finish out where you are with your current major.
You can always look for a job more in keeping with your interests and/or pursue grad school when you can afford it.
Agree^.
And, where do you think the money will come from?
US taxpayers fund the government funds (PELL) that you received.
The government and public taxpayer doesn’t want to continually fund a student who uses up funds beyond what is expected for a degree. This is why there is a time and dollar limit.
Deciding that you don’t like the major, and want to now change, in senior year, means that the money will come from your pocketbook for your education. If you want to get a hospitality degree, then the cash will come from you. Oh and they want it upfront.
Either graduate now, or try to transfer and see if any school will take you, but you will be paying full fees for 2 years. As noted previously, transfers usually get very little aid of any kind.
For an associate degree you may receive TAP for up to 6 semesters. You will be limited to 6 semesters of TAP even if you change majors or transfer to another community college. When you enroll in a 4 year college program at a senior college, you will become eligible for an additional 2 full-time semesters of TAP bringing your undergraduate total to 8 semesters.
Students can get 8 semesters of TAP. Students in special programs (SEEK) can get a couple more semesters, but when the cap is reached the aid ends. I think students can get 12 semesters of Pell. When that cap is reached that grant ends too. You won’t be eligible for more aid from either program if you change majors or transfer to another school, so you need to finish before your aid runs out
What’s your current major? Can you finish it in the spring? You won’t get additional Pell or TAP if you transfer so you’d need a full ride to be able to attend another college, and tansfers don’t usually get much aid. Your best bet is to graduate, get a job, and find an affordable master’s program that you can do part-time while you work.
