Transfer to Penn from Boston College Chances

I accidentally posted this in the chances forum

Last year I applied to Penn and BC among other schools, I was denied from Penn and let into BC. My heart wasn't set on Penn at all and I'm not transferring soully for that purpose. Mainly i just don't like the culture at BC, the kids are more of the preppy type, school spirit is really too high for me over dumb things, and the area it is in is too rich. My first semester gpa kind of sucked with a 3.42 because i had a hard time adjusting and my one of my roommates who has since left kept me up all night making noise and snoring. I'm not making excuses but do you think a transfer is even possible. My SATs in HS were a 710 math 690 reading 640 writing 780 bio and 710 history 4 AP lit 4 AP bio 4 AP US History. I was also on the soccer and football teams, the local fire department and did research at a local university (the university of scranton). Do you think i should even waste my time filling out the application just to get denied, or is there a shot depending on my essay. I also got in BC early action if that matters which is supposedly more difficult. Also if not penn what other school comparable to BC in the northeast should i apply to. Thanks

I don’t think you have a good chance with a 3.4. Most people apply with a 3.8-4.0. I would stay at BC for another year and apply as a Junior. That way you can raise your GPA, making yourself a more competitive applicant. Remember that penn is still very selective. Even with a 3.8+ chances are very low. Notre Dame (a little far), Cornell (very preppy - my friend tells me people walk around in salmon colored pants), and NYU, are all transfer friendly schools.

Okay thanks, it’s not just the preppy thing, its just the campus in general, I’m just not liking it here as much as i thought its too enclosed kind of like being at a gigantic high school in a way, its a great school but just not what I expected and not for me.

why not get out of the NE if you’re not into that feel? maybe you’d like somewhere out west more? you’d probably have a shot at USC…deadline is in 2 weeks

Actually, with a 2040 SAT I, I am surprised that you were admitted to BC.

Would it be stupid to drop from BC in favor of pittsburgh
