Hi all. I am a rising sophomore at Bryn Mawr College and am hoping to apply to transfer to Penn in the spring. I know that GPA is really important, my current GPA is a 3 which I know is way too low for Penn, but I am really hoping to raise my GPA within the next two semesters.
I was wondering if anyone who has transferred from Bryn Mawr or has transferred to Penn have any advice (besides raising my GPA!), or just your story on why you transferred or anything really! Thank you so much
Rising sophomore here too! Not from BMC though. May I ask why you want to transfer to Penn?
Hey! So I had pretty great luck with regard to transferring this year, and I decided on Penn CAS. I had a 3.6-3.7 ish GPA and that is honestly a little low itself to transfer to an Ivy, but I think I made up for it through my extracurriculars. I had an internship at a reputable financial services firm, and had leadership positions in selective clubs as a freshman.
The best advice I’ve heard for college admissions is this: no one expects you to be good at everything under the sun. What they do expect is for you to have a passion, no matter how obscure, and excel in that field. I’m interested in environmentalism and graphic design, and I had a bunch of ECs and personal projects dedicated to these things. I was a freelance artist and designed presentations for my internship. Show that you can’t get enough of what you love, and show how you can bring your passion to Penn!
Also essays are super important, but at this point I think they’re mainly to weed out who is transferring for the wrong reasons (like “no one here is smart enough!” or something). I think mine even had typos. Oops.
@cassat hey I also tried to transfer to Upenn as a freshman but didn’t get in cos I applied to Wharton. Although I had a 4.0 I think the rest of my application wasn’t that impressive so I’m not angry that I didn’t get it. Would you mind sharing what your ECs and internship are cos I’m planning to try again as a junior transfer next year and any advice from successful transfer applicants would be great!
@wks96157794 hey, so Wharton transfer is very, very tough, so definitely don’t feel bad.
I can’t share too much, but I was on the board of a public service fund, an energy group, a women’s leadership group, a political group, and a few others. I started a t-shirt company to get more practice with graphic design, and my internship was for a bulge bracket bank at their DC headquarters. It was all relevant to my application, as I extensively talked about environmentalism, feminism, and design!
PM me if you’d like anything more specific.
@cassat Given your large number of ECs and internships, how many credits did you end up taking each semester?
