OP, I also want to give you kudos for doing everything you have to get your life back on track. If I were you, I would call the admissions office at the State School and lay your situation out before them. I don’t know what their reaction will be, but I am impressed that you are working hard to turn a bad situation into a good one.

They probably care more about whether your GPA is up to their selectivity (usually by major) standards, and whether you will be able to graduate on-time in your major based on your completed course work. It does seem like your current school has a higher than typical standard to stay off of academic probation, since a 2.0 GPA is the usual threshold while you say that you have a 2.8 GPA. But you may want to call them and ask specifically if you cannot find the answer on the school web site section for transfer admissions – since you did not name the school, no one else can answer that for you or look for it on the school’s web site.

It is pretty common for prior college GPA not to transfer to the new undergraduate school – but graduate and professional schools are likely to want to look at courses and grades from all colleges attended.
