Transfer to Stern

What do you think my chances are as a TRANSFER student to Stern?

College:
GPA: 3.53 (First year was a 3.89 dropped a little from B’s last semester)
Year: Sophomore
EC: Chorus
Ballroom Dancing
Meet all of the Stern pre-reqs (Acctg, Economics, etc.)

SAT: 1270 (2nd Try, Didn’t bother to get higher back then and can’t retake now)

High School:
GPA: 3.86
EC: Band (4 Years and Drum Major)
Latin Club
NHS

I currently work over 35 hours per week at a very good job directly related to my field of study. NYU seems to not like additional recommendation letters so I will not have my employer send one, but do mention the job on my resume and in my essay.

I am a white male living in north Florida going to a fairly well respected college, I am hoping the fact I am from the southeast and not the northeast will work to my advantage.

My essays and personal statements in my opinion are wonderful.

It would have helped if you had not gotten those B's last semester. I think it's a reach for you, but there's always hope.

your chances are slim

reach, need better gpa and more ecs and leadership

Thanks for the information so far.

I would think working 35+ hours per week in a related field could make up for a 3.5 GPA (a 4.0 would be easy if that’s all I had to focus on). I would also think that it is a huge EC in and of itself. Also note, this is not a typical “college student” job, every other person in my position has at least the bachelors already.

What do you guys think, am I trying to place too much emphasis on the job or could it really help me stand out from other applicants?

Remember guys, this is college GPA, so a 3.5 is worth A LOT more than a 3.5 from high school. I think it's going to depend on how prestigous the college you're attending is.

But it's out of your hands now. No point in stressing about it anymore :)

73 units at a community college, 3.94 gpa
minimal amount of ec, some volunteer work as a tutor
mun, alpha gamma sigma @ college
no leadership positions really

studied korean overseas for a quarter -> 91

high school:
2.0 gpa, 3 high schools, graduated from adult school

SAT i/ii's
junior yr @ hs = 1370 -> (600v, 770m)
junior yr @ hs -> sat ii's 680 (math2), 760(am history)
12/05 = sat 1940 (640v,690m,610w - stupid writiing prompt)
11/05 = sat 2 math 2 = 670

ap tests in h.s.
5 us history, 2 chem

Does hs/the 4 year break from school make me a stretch?
the 3.94gpa i took challenging courses (as challenging as it could be from a community college).

let us know if you got in
